Senator Clarke Jolley just pushed through an amendment to SB1282 which will exempt a Google vender from paying sales tax on paper purchased from out-of-state, for production. At a time when citizens are being pressed to pay sales tax on items bought from out-of-state, it remains a consistent inconsistency whereby the well-connected can be exempted from taxes which the little guy is coerced to pay. It's not wrong to vote for a tax exemption, but it's hard to press for higher taxes, closed exemptions, and eliminated credits, when the legislature carves out an amendment written to benefit one particular vendor. the factory worker has to buy steel-toed boots, & Carhartt protective wear for his job, but must pay all taxes when he buys it from Amazon.com. It's good to see a special constituent get a good deal. The amendment to SB1282 is a carve-out for a good deal to Google vendors. It would be good to see the employees at Google and other industries get the same "good deal". SB1282 passed on a 46-0 tally |
Smalley & Cockroft pushed a 50% tax increase on the already-massive tax bill for mobile communications. Currently, the combined taxes and fees for mobile communications is roughly 3 times what our sales tax rate averages, across the state. At a time when Oklahoma cannot pay for the massive government we already have; this new agency will make mobile communication just that much harder to access. Most of Oklahoma already has an efficient way to reach emergency services, but when you can't afford cell service, this legislation may actually make it harder for those on limited incomes to get a message to emergency services. It is astonishing that this bill passed without real floor debate. The nation might not have a welfare program for free "ObamaPhones" if it weren't so taxing to pay for cell service on our own. The bill passed the House on a 70-16 vote. HB 3126 contains numerous provisions related to the Oklahoma 9-1-1 Management Authority Act, including
This week, the Oklahoma legislature is going to sneak several new taxes into existence. They will add massive new levels to current tax rates. They will make your next crisis cost you so much more.
