Tulsa Voters are being ignored, largely, except for targeted demographic groups. The biggest decisions of the century are being decided in the next 24 hours. Seven 'constitutional amendments' to the city's charter. Many of these issues may result in a loss of political representation, and all the bad that follows. Michael Bates graciously took up my request for his analysis, last month. He meticulously studied the language of the proposals, council discussions, community forums, and historic precedence. After reading his several posts in this Tulsa Charter series, and his radio interview with Pat Campbell, I and several other concur that only the first two proposals are beneficial for Tulsa when taken as a whole. The other 5 proposals have a far more detrimental downside than a real benefit. Listen to the KFAQ audio and look over the Batesline articles, then get everyone you can to go to the polls, tomorrow. Voting is going to be very light. your voice will carry a power of 50, when so little participate in these foundational decisions. |
This is the end of a chapter, but I am interested in seeing good come out of this. Tulsa needs to learn. The citizens, the cops, the prosecutors; we all have things we can learn from this to make Tulsa a better home town.
by David Van Risseghem - The Tulsa Frontier reports that Tulsa County avoided another embarrassing lawsuit over a sad tragedy. A young man of questionable mental health missed a court hearing on a nonviolent charge. He was summarily hauled into the jail for failure to appear. No mental health concern was ever followed up on. Then they found him hanging in his cell.
