Donald Trump marked the passing of President Jimmy Carter on Truth Social this week, saying the Democrat “worked hard” and “truly loved our country.”

“President Jimmy Carter is dead at 100 years of age. While I strongly disagreed with him philosophically and politically, I also realized that he truly loved and respected our Country, and all it stands for. He worked hard to make America a better place, and for that I give him my highest respect. He was a truly good man and, of course, will be greatly missed. He was also very consequential, far more than most Presidents, after he left the Oval Office. Warmest condolences from Melania and I to his wonderful family!” wrote the President-Elect.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul stunned lawmakers in Albany this week when she called for the elimination of the Electoral College, a measure that would require a new amendment to the US Constitution.

“It’s time to amend the Constitution and relegate the institution of the Electoral College to the history books,” said Hochul.

President Biden commuted 1,500 jail sentences and pardoned 39 others Thursday, the biggest single-day act of clemency in modern American history.

President Biden has commuted jail sentences for nearly 1,500 people and granted 39 pardons, marking the largest single-day act of clemency in modern history, the White House announced Thursday morning.

Sentences were commuted for inmates placed on home confinement during the COVID-19 pandemic and who “have successfully reintegrated into their families and communities,” according to the announcement. The 39 individuals pardoned were convicted of non-violent crimes, the White House said.

The White House did not, however, immediately release specific names of those receiving pardons and sentence commutations.

“The President has issued more sentence commutations at this point in his presidency than any of his recent predecessors at the same point in their first terms,” White House officials said in a statement.

Biden hinted that he plans to make more pardons and clemencies before he leaves office.
