You would think by now Republicans would have learned that pushing an amnesty bill that is clearly an amnesty they claim "isn't an amnesty bill" doesn't work. Yet, here we are again, led by "Republican" Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar pushing her "Dignity Act." She and Republican Rep. Brandon Gill got into it on Tuesday, where she challenged haters to "read the bill."
Haters took her up on that. Now they hate it even more. Also, it's not the "Dignity Act" so much as the Dignidad ACT. Granting amnesty to illegals while lying about granting amnesty to illegals wasn't enough to just name it in English.
The gimmick is that only people who entered here illegally prior to the People Who Controlled Joe Biden administration would be eligible to apply for dignity. That's the compromise. Then you begin to read through the 260-page bill and find nuggets like:
- People who apply for her "dignity" can't be deported.
- Asylum seekers can receive taxpayer-funded legal counsel.
- The cap on the number of immigrant visas we issue per country has been DOUBLED.
- The attorney general can halt deportation proceedings if the illegal being deported has family here.
And my personal favorite? Orders the Department of Education to forgive 75% of law school for any attorney who "has completed not less than four years of full-time employment as an attorney providing legal services at a humanitarian campus."

Twenty republican congrssman have signed on to this because they think showing how moderate they are will prevent them from needing to look for a new job after November. Not a single one of them has spoken out about any of the specific problems people have with specific parts of the bill. Just the generic -- and bullplop -- talking point, "Not doing anything is de facto amnesty."
You can argue over what degree of mass deportations people voted for in 2024, versus voting for the border to be sealed, versus simply enforcing existing immigration laws. What people did NOT vote for? New laws that grant illegals amnesty while encouraging more to come here illegally.
There needs to be primary challenges.

Because it's not enough for the GOP to sell out and push amnesty, their bill is named in Spanish
