Who would have thought that this would be the year we can all finally bet on Skee-Ball? Because you better believe it, as Dave & Buster's is now letting customers make bets on its arcade games.

According to the New York Post:

Patrons will soon be able to place a $5 wager via Dave & Buster’s mobile app on the chain’s Hot Shots basketball game and Skee-Ball competition, among other arcade games.

The betting function is expected to launch on the app — called “D&B Rewards” on the Apple and Android app stores — within the next few months, and will use technology by gamification software company Lucra, according to CNBC.

“This new partnership gives our loyalty members real-time, unrivaled gaming experiences, and reinforces our commitment to continuing to elevate our customer experience through innovative, cutting-edge technology,“ Simon Murray, the senior vice president of entertainment and attractions at Dave & Buster’s, said in a press release Tuesday.

That is definitely one way to get people to download the app as well as get them in the door more often.

The number of loyalty members that have made an account on the rewards app — which offers bonus game chips, free food and drink offerings plus other discounts — is already upwards of 5 million, CNBC reported.

Aside from encouraging further app downloads, Dave & Buster’s said that its forthcoming betting initiative “will help to destigmatize cash-based competition by evolving it into a fun, friendly and social experience.”

I know what you are thinking. Why not just place the bets with your friends instead of downloading an app and giving the establishment more cash? Well, no one thought of that and so now we have this story for you. However, one benefit to this is that D and B will actually pay up and your friend might not.

Some think that this adds an extra level of degeneracy to our already lost culture. Although it does feel as if gambling is becoming more and more acceptable by the day, I am not convinced this will add much ruin to our culture since I am having trouble seeing how a $5 bet on Skee-Ball will contribute to the downfall of Western civilization. But I could be wrong. So I am curious, what are your thoughts on this?
