Teachers’ unions are presently discussing the possibility of going back to remote learning as the Omicron variant sweeps across the United States, giving mild colds to everyone in its path. But while teachers may be worried their children will have to suffer through another semester of remote learning—where outcomes have been shown to be deleterious—perhaps they should be concerned about how teachers are using the technology to spy and meddle.
Lori Caldeira and Kelly Baraki, middle school teachers in California, reportedly used GoGuardian software to track students’ online activity for the purpose of designating students to invite to an LGBTQ club, reports the New York Post.
“When we were doing our virtual learning—we totally stalked what they were doing on Google, when they weren’t doing schoolwork […] One of them was Googling ‘Trans Day of Visibility.’ And we’re like, ‘Check.’ We’re going to invite that kid when we get back on campus.”
The GoGuardian software was approved by the district to prevent online misconduct, but the teachers located students who visited certain websites and invited them to the club based on their activity.
“Their parents think we start that conversation, but we don’t […] TikTok starts it, Snapchat starts it, Instagram starts it or their classmates start it, and then we just try to answer the questions as honestly and fairly as we can.”
There’s no excuse for how these teachers acted. They deserve to be fired for spying on and recruiting confused children into a club that would undoubtedly feed into their confusion. One can only assume what the club was for as “Caldeira and Baraki also conceded that they purposefully limited documentation of the club or its members in order to limit parental knowledge of its workings.”
But perhaps it’s time that parents start taking a closer look at what their children are using they technology for. These two nut jobs make one good point: social media is getting to our children before anyone else. It provides constant messaging, and most of that messaging is coming from the radical left who controls much of Big Tech.
TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat are all repositories of propaganda, smut, and insanity, and it would behoove parents to take a more active role in keeping their children away from such applications.
The threat to our kids is all around us.
