Last time I checked, it was Rep. Pramila Jayapal's job to represent the American people. Nowhere is it written in the Constitution that elected officials should focus efforts on helping residents of foreign countries -- especially ones run by a dictatorship. However, what is even more bizarre is that Jayapal not only is doing that, but she seems to be giving the government of Cuba a pass for its tyrannical regime -- while falsely labeling the one democratically elected in America as Fascism.
Jayapal has called for the end of sanctions on Cuba, labeling this the equivalent of an "economic bombing.” It is unclear why she is focused so hard on helping other countries, especially ones with evil communist leadership, as she refuses to do her job in America. While she likely believes this puts her on the compassionate side of history, that could not be further from the truth.
Not only is this foolish and inappropriate, but it has nothing to do with her job description.
On May 1, President Donald Trump “signed an Executive Order imposing new sanctions on the Cuban regime, protecting U.S. national security.”
The President is addressing the national security threats posed by the communist Cuban regime by taking decisive action to hold the Cuban regime, and those that perpetuate it, accountable for its support of hostile actors, terrorism, and regional instability that endanger American security and foreign policy.
The Cuban regime aligns itself with countries and malign actors hostile to the United States, going so far as to facilitate their military and intelligence operations. For example, Cuba hosts foreign adversary facilities focused on targeting and exploiting sensitive national security information from the United States.
Cuba maintains close ties to other major state sponsors of terrorism, including the Government of Iran, and provides safe haven for transnational terrorist groups, including Hezbollah. The regime persecutes and tortures political opponents, denies its citizens free speech rights, and actively spreads communist ideology across the region while repressing its populace.
Why is Jayapal so obsessed with helping out an awful government? She has zero evidence to disprove the fact that Cuban officials are “responsible for repression and threats to U.S. national security and foreign policy.” If she did, she would back up her claims, but she cannot, because she simply has no clue what she is talking about. At best, she is making things up as she goes along or is parroting back things she does not understand. At worst, she is intentionally defending a communist regime known for human rights violations, as well as partnering with countries that pose threats to this country's national security. You are free to draw your own conclusion.
It is unclear how someone like Jayapal gets elected, but the fact that she does nonsense like this and still has a job will always defy reason.
