Speaker-Designate, Charles McCall is faced with his first cover up scandal, even before he gets the gavel. "The Democratic Party of Oklahoma is deeply concerned about the use of state funds to settle a sexual harassment claim against Representative Dan Kirby." , Chairman Mark Hammons said today. He went on to say; “The possible misuse of funds appropriated for a wholly different purpose and expenditure which may be barred by Oklahoma’s prohibition against indemnifying state employees for actions motivated by ‘discriminatory animus director toward. . . sex’, as described by 51 O.S. Sec. 162(B)(4)(e), is a serious issue that state leaders need to address immediately." “There must be a complete and immediate investigation into this action and a full disclosure of the nature of the claims against Rep. Kirby and the authority for the payment.” |
The Republican House leadership attempted to quietly pay both Hollie Bishop(28) and her legal team nearly $50,000 to quietly drop a sexual harassment suit against Rep. Dan Kirby(58), of Tulsa. Bishop had reported a claim of sexual harassment to the House management office, 15 months ago. She was assured that the report would not be punished. But her request to be reassigned to another Representative's office was evidently not honored. The conditions grew worse and a few months later she was terminated without any stated reason. The case was sealed until after Kirby's re-election, and then she was paid nearly $30k to continue to stay silent. |
