The State Election Board just completed the biennial filing period for state & federal offices, for the 2018 election cycle. this years crop of candidates set an all-time record of 794 applications.
328 Republicans filed for office and 229 Democrats did as well. 3 Democrat senators will enter a new term without any challengers. All of the Republican Senators were challenged. So far the 2019 Legislaturelooks like this; 11 House seats will remain in Democrat hands. 14 House seats will remain in Republican hands. The 2019 senate will have 22 Republicans and 5 Democrats, even before any elections are held, this year. We've posted the unofficial totals from the election board database. On Monday an official list will be published. There will be a short period where challenges can be mounted against any candidate by anyone registered to vote in that jurisdiction.
