Pro-life advocates on the right have long insisted that the state should defy federal jurisdiction on selective abortion. They cite the 10th amendment as a basis for resistance. | A group of advocates for 'sanctuary cities' is organizing a protest at the Tulsa County Jail, at noon, today. They are angry with the sheriff for cooperating with the federal govt. to enforce the federal laws pertaining to lawful entry into the USA. They insist that the state and the counties & municipalities should defy the federal govt. on the basis of their core belief that the federal govt. should have no authority to prevent the state from letting anyone the state desires to give residency to. The group believes this is a 10th amendment issue of states' rights. Here is their social media posting: ![]() This Thursday marks our 25th consecutive protest of immigrant detentions at David L. Moss. We will keep at it as a way of bearing witness and raising consciousness. Our call has gotten sharper over the last several weeks, as we focus attention on those arrested for insignificant offenses. Should someone be deported because he or she came to the attention of the authorities for a misdemeanor? The obvious answer is no. And, yet, policies of deportation continue. This causes great distress for families being torn apart. Please join us in raising our voices against inhumane immigrant removal practices. In solidarity, The New Sanctuary Network Team |
