ScoresSoftball: Texas 2, Cowgirls 1 Baseball: Cowboys 2, WV 1Three Thoughts• Cowboy forward Eric Dailey, Jr. has entered the portal – it’s hard to tell if the struggle of the Mike Boynton era was bringing in the wrong (non-Cade) players or not developing them but a new coach will need to discern (PFB) • With Steve Lutz emerging as the candidate, fun to revisit his placement as a No. 12 seed in this bracket (Sellout Crowd) • Mike Gundy’s answer on why he chose to move on from Greg Richmond was insightful:“We just needed a change there,” Gundy said. “In my 20 years as a head coach, I haven’t had to change coaches much. I feel like I’m responsible for coaching the guys I hire here, and they’re responsible for coaching the players. Every once in a while, we need to change. Greg Richmond is a great football coach and a great human being. We just needed a change. It’s one of the most difficult things to do in my position. I haven’t done it a lot because I feel like I’m responsible for them.” [O’Colly] Two Quotes• Just hearing about this guy’s history makes it easier to be up for his hiring:• One freshman is killing it in the weight room for the Cowboys: “We got a freshman — Armstrong (Nnodim) — crazy strong,” linebacker Nickolas Martin said. “He’s like 17, 18, like 280 [pounds]. I think he like power cleaned like 365, something crazy.” [PFB] One Question• Which is the bigger OSU “what if” – what if Matt Holliday played for OSU or if Jackson Holliday had played for OSU?Non-OSU Bullets• How to master the art of small talk • How many sodas are too many?Read this original article at Pistols Firing Blog. After the Cowgirls shutout the Longhorns on Thursday, the ‘Horns answered on Good Friday. Texas bested Oklahoma State 2-1 on Friday at Cowgirl Stadium. That Longhorn win tied the weekend series at 1, setting up a rubber match at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Cowgirls got the scoring started with a run in the bottom of the first off a Claire Timm sacrifice fly that scored Tallen Edwards, but UT answered with runs in the third and sixth to secure its win. PFB photographer Devin Wilber was on hand Friday night in Stillwater. Here are some of his best shots. Read this original article at Pistols Firing Blog. Spring Football: Oklahoma States Tight End Renaissance Is Continues with Another Talented Transfer3/29/2024 The Cowboys punctuated the return to the tight end in 2023 with a productive transfer stepping up to the power conference ranks. Perhaps 2024 will be a similar story. Oklahoma State has all its top playmakers back among the Big 3 skill position groups, but the Cowboys are tasked with replacing their most productive tight end since they had a future NFL big man as a red zone threat. Let’s take a look at the Cowboys’ tight end group as spring practice continues. Don’t forget to check out our previous Spring Position previews: QB | RB | WR One-Year RentalsIt’s the new way of college football, and it worked out pretty well for OSU in 2023. In the first year splitting the hybrid Cowboy Back group back into tight ends and fullbacks, OSU saw its most productive year from a tight end, receiving-wise, since Blake Jarwin was making his name in Stillwater. Josiah Johnson transferred in from UMass ahead of 2023 and proceeded to log the most yards by a Cowboy tight end (166) since Jarwin racked up 309 and two touchdowns back in 2016. And Johnson’s 22 catches were the most by one in more than a decade when Blake Jackson was OSU’s No. 2 receiver with 29 grabs, 598 yards and three TDs all the way back in 2012. But Johnson declared for the 2024 NFL Draft after exhausting his eligibility. Enter Tyler Foster. Foster is another one-year rental, after spending the last five seasons at Ohio, where he enjoyed pronounced success over the last two seasons, including a dramatic postseason game-winner. Foster racked up 211 receiving yards on 20 catches this past season as Ohio went 10-3. The year before, he caught 13 passes for 185 yards including this overtime-deciding grab in the Bobcats’ bowl game.
Who (Else) is BackQuinton Stewart is back. He has seen action throughout the last three seasons, and his claim to fame, thus far, is a Bedlam touchdown in 2022. Junior tight end Tabry Shettron also brings back two years of experience in the system. The former three-star prosect, and brother of wide receiver Talyn, showed his receiving skills in high school. We’ll see if he can get a chance to showcase them at the next level. Who (Else) is NewAside from Foster, OSU welcomes Josh Ford. The true freshman hails all the way from Pioneer Stadium, about a mile south of BPS. Ford was a Top 20 player in the state, according to 247Sports and ESPN. At 6-foot-6 and 240 pounds, Ford joins fellow newcomer Foster (6 foot 6, 245) as the two tallest skill players on the roster. Number That Matters: 5The last time multiple OSU tight ends logged at least five catches each was also in 2016 (Jarwin plus Zac Veach’s nine). It will be interesting to see if the Cowboys continue to put more trust on the tight end and take advantage of those potential mismatches. TE OutlookAs is the case with most of its skill positions on offense, the Cowboys’ depth chart appears to be a nice smattering of incoming talent and established depth, youth and experience. We’ll see if the tight end carves out an even bigger role this fall. Spring TE Depth Chart PredictionTE1 Tyler Foster Read this original article at Pistols Firing Blog. The Cowboys have now gone more than two weeks without a basketball coach, and another player is reportedly set to enter the portal. Eric Dailey Jr. is set to enter the portal, according to On3’s Jamie Shaw. A freshman at Oklahoma State this past season, Dailey averaged 9.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists a game. He was the Cowboys’ third-leading scorer behind Javon Small and Bryce Thompson, and Dailey shot 50% from the field. OSU fired coach Mike Boynton on March 14. Boynton obviously played a big role in getting Dailey, a four-star prospect with USA Basketball experience, to Stillwater. Listed at 6-foot-8, 230 pounds, Dailey was a consensus four-start recruit out of IMG Academy in Florida, where he took a postgrad year after initially being a part of the 2022 recruiting class. 247Spors listed Dailey as the No. 38 player in his class. Dailey scored in double figures 15 times this past season, putting up a career-high 20 in a game against Oklahoma. He had a pair of double-doubles as a freshman: putting up 13 points and 11 rebounds against Creighton and 12 points and 11 rebounds against Oral Roberts. After starting during the early portion of the Cowboys’ season, Dailey was primarily used as a sixth man scoring threat off Boynton’s bench. Dailey would join fellow freshman Brandon Garrison in the portal. Garrison entered the portal in the days following Boynton’s dismissal. Small was reportedly set to enter the portal before posting on social media that he was “not officially in the transfer portal.” Western Kentucky’s Steve Lutz is the favorite to take over at OSU, but nothing has been made official. With the pair of players in the portal, whomever the new coach is has six scholarships available to use, as of writing. Read this original article at Pistols Firing Blog.
