Staillee Heard has some help.

With the transfer portal taking a lot from Oklahoma State over the past week or so, Jacie Hoyt and Co. got some good news on Tuesday when Division-II Player of the Year Talexa Weeter announced she has committed to be a Cowgirl. Playing at Fort Hays State in Kansas, Weeter averaged 27.5 points a game this past season while shooting 40% from 3.

Listed at 6-feet, Weeter should have one season of eligibility remaining after spending the past three at Fort Hays. She hails from Goodland, Kansas, a town of about 4,400 in the northwest part of the state.

Weeter scored in double figures in all 31 of the Tigers’ games this past season. She scored at least 20 points in 25 of those contests. She had at least 30 on a dozen occasions and surpassed the 40-point threshold twice.

She dropped 45 against Northwest Missouri State on Jan. 1 while hitting 13 field goals and 17 free throws. Then against Harding in the first round of the D-II NCAA Tournament, Weeter scored 46, going 16-for-23 from the field, 3-for-4 from 3 and 11-for-12 from the foul line.

Along with her gaudy scoring numbers, Weeter averaged 8.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.4 steals a contest.

Weeter worked her way up to these types of outputs. She played in just 11 games as a freshman, averaging 2.6 points a contest. As a sophomore, she averaged 14.6 points and six rebounds a game while coming off the bench 33 times.

Weeter was a three-time All-State selection in the state of Kansas and was named the state’s Miss Basketball in 2023.

This actually marks the second time she has been a Cowgirl, as that was also her high school mascot at Goodland. She led those Cowgirls to back-to-back state titles and left the high school game on a 39-game winning streak.

Hoyt’s rebuild is off to a strong start after the likes of Jadyn Wooten, Achol Akot, Amari Whiting and more announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal.

Oklahoma State will start the second half off its regular season by hosting Colorado for America’s Greatest Homecoming. Both the Cowboys and Buffaloes are looking to bounce back in 2026 after holding down the basement of the Big 12 in 2025.

The Cowboys got buried 52-zip in Boulder two years ago. It was a disgusting cap to what (at that point) was the most disappointing season in OSU history. Shedeur Sanders hung five TDs on the Pokes. It was 21-0 at the end of the first quarter, and the Buffaloes never looked back.

Colorado in 2025: The Buffs had their own down year following the loss of Sanders and Travis Hunter to the NFL. They also dealt with a ton of injuries in 2025. The Buffaloes tied for 129th out of 138 FBS teams in terms of lineup stability. Only six Buffaloes started at least 11 games last season.

That added up to a 3-9 finish in 2025. The Buffs will start 2026 on a five-game skid. Only the Cowboys ranked behind CU when the dust settled on the 2025 Big 12 football season.

Colorado in 2026: Help is on the way. As of writing, Colorado ranks fourth in the conference in team transfer portal rankings according to 247Sports. Their 43 transfers committed ranks only behind only OSU (53) nationally.

Deion Sanders also brought in former Sacramento State head coach Brennan Marion to run his offense and to coach QBs including returning sophomore Julian Lewis, who took the reins down the stretch, and incoming Utah transfer Isaac Wilson, brother of New Orleans Saints quarterback Zach Wilson.

Of note: Like OSU, Colorado is hitting the portal hard and that leaves less room for traditional recruiting. The two schools rank in the last two spots in composite recruiting ranking per 247. CU has just 17 high school commits and two are four-star recruits.

STILLWATER — Linebacker Trip White spent a lot of time on the sidelines during the first three years of his career at Ole Miss.

Initially, the move to Stillwater didn’t seem to be the breakout he was hoping for when he transferred. White played four total defensive snaps in the first two games.

He averaged 29 snaps per game the rest of the season. It sounds like he expects to have an even bigger role under the new regime.

“It’s been great,” White said of transitioning with the new staff. “I think that I’m going to be one of the guys this year. It’s a blessing always. The team love me, the defense love me, the coaches love me. They’ve been showing their love, and as of right now, it is pretty good for me, you know what I mean.”

White finished the year ninth in defensive snaps for the Cowboys with 294. Pro Football Focus graded him out 69.5 overall, the eighth-best mark on the team.

He kept it simple when asked why he chose to remain in Stillwater when the portal opened.

“I mean, I really love the OSU culture,” White said. “I want to see us win, and I know it is going to be this season.”

White only played 72 defensive snaps during his three seasons at Ole Miss under two different groups of defensive coordinators, making this his fourth time hitting the reset button on a defense.

“The (new) defense, I actually fit well in,” White said. “It is similar to the defense at Ole Miss that I played in, that style. I kind of transition, position into it pretty good even though last year I had to be in like two or three different defenses, the packages and stuff that I was in. This year, the defense I feel pretty good in it.”

White said learning multiple defenses, especially the similar one at Ole Miss, helped him pick things up this spring. Tight end coach Drew Svoboda had a similar message last week regarding the value of how players with multiple offenses pick up new ones even faster.

Still, given White’s relative inexperience on the field, his outspoken confidence in earning playing time under his new coaches seems rather bold at first glance. However, it lines up with his involvement during recent practices. On March 24th, the same day White spoke to the media, the linebackers split into two lines. White ran with the second group behind only UNT transfer Ethan Wesloski and Arizona State transfer Tate Romney.

That suggests he could be among the top four, perhaps even the top three, guys expected to see time at various linebacker positions. For all intents and purposes, Wesloski should be viewed as a returning starter and the undisputed top option. That’s important to know because on the very first day of spring practice, White took the field alongside Wesloski when the defense ran 7-on-7 type drills.

Here is how White described the room right now.

“It is pretty competitive, and everyone loves to compete,” he said. “There is no bad blood, no guys jealous, everybody has come in with a good attitude and just want to compete and make the defense better. We’re all doing our thing, just trying to impress coach, and get him to trust us.”

His new position coach, Reggie Johnson, didn’t meet White until after he decided to stick around and play for Eric Morris. Johnson said it was obvious that White really bought into Morris’ initial message.

It would seem that went both ways, considering how many players left in the portal, with many of them likely doing so under guidance from Morris and the incoming coaches. Johnson didn’t get too specific when describing how White has impressed him this spring, but it’s likely White’s abilities against the run stood out, considering PFF graded him second among OSU defenders last season with a run-defense grade of 80.8.

“He’s a good-looking rascal, man,” Johnson said. “He’s long, he’s athletic, and he has a lot of ability. So it is my job to get his butt coached up, and so Trip has been good, and he’s competing, which they all are.

“But again, I think Trip is committed to Oklahoma State. He has been, and again, it has been a pleasure working with him as well. So we still, with the whole group, we still have a long way to go. I’m glad we don’t play for another few months, man. But the group, it’s a good group of guys.”

PORTAL TRACKER

The first domino of Oklahoma State’s battle in the transfer portal has tumbled.

Daniel Guetta is set to hit the portal when it opens April 7, according to 247Sports’ Dushawn London.

Guetta joined the Cowboys from Israel last offseason as a 22-year-old freshman. A 6-foot-2 point guard, Guetta appeared in 11 games for the Cowboys, totaling 22 points, eight rebounds, nine assists and three steals in 105 minutes on the floor.

His best game of the season came late. He scored 11 points against Davidson in the first round of the NIT, picking up some slack to help a short-handed Cowboy squad to get the win. He appeared in just three Big 12 games this season.

Out of Kiryat Gat, Israel, Guetta has professional experience. He played for Maccabi Rehovot in the 2024-25 season, where he averaged 9.6 points and 4.7 assists across 34 games.

He’s also played with the Israeli Junior National Team, helping his country take silver in the 2023 FIBA European Championship.

Guetta becomes the first Cowboy to make his portal intentions known. OSU had to fill nine roster spots via the portal last season. We’ll see just how much roster turnover comes this year.

STILLWATER — Stailee Heard’s offseason workouts might feel a tad haunted for a bit.

On Monday, reports came out that freshman Lena Girardi intends to enter the transfer portal which officially opens on April 6. The freshman finished seventh in points per game, averaging 7.8. Despite finishing a distant seventh in minutes this season (415), Girardi finished third in made 3-pointers (51) and second in 3-point accuracy, knocking down 39.8% of her attempts.

Girardi shared the following post on X on Monday afternoon.

The freshman went 2-of-3 beyond the arc against UCLA in the second round of the NCAA Tournament and finished fifth in overall points (6), though it was a competitive showing considering only two Cowgirls (Achol Akot and Jadyn Wooten) finished in double-figures.

Girardi is the eighth Cowgirl reported with plans of entering the portal. That list now includes starters Akot and Amari Whiting alongside unofficial starter in all but name, Jadyn Wooten, and backups Macey Huard, Tyla Heard, Favour Onoh and Faith Acker.

Starters Micah Gray and Haleigh Timmer exhausted their eligibility alongside reserve Wilnie Joseph.

Only Stailee Heard has announced plans to return, leaving redshirt junior Praise Egharevba as the only question mark as of Monday.

Heard stepped back as a scorer, at least in part due to Oklahoma State’s depth in 2026. She finished fourth on the team with 11.9 points per game. She paced the team with 62 steals and finished third in rebounds (5.8 per game) and assists (2.4).

In the 2024-25 season, Heard led the way almost across the board with 16.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game to go along with 58 steals. She still finished third on the team with 2.1 assists.

There’s been a growing case of hockey fever across the plains of Payne County, but it seems the excitement is only getting started.

According to News on 6’s Scott Pfeil, Boone Pickens Stadium will host a multi-team hockey even in January 2027. The event will span four days with Oklahoma State’s club team playing on two nights.

If you’re reading this going, “Hockey? At OSU?” Yes, you read that correctly.

OSU’s club hockey team has seen a meteoric rise of late. The Cowboys made the national final of the American Collegiate Hocket Association (ACHA) tournament, coming second to Florida Gulf Coast.

Cowboy Kaden Nelson led the division in points with 104 (46 goals and 58 assists).

This school year, the Cowboys went 29-2, according to their online schedule. That record includes some gaudy scorelines like beating Creighton 25-0, an 18-1 win against North Texas and a 13-2 win against Oklahoma at the BOK Center.

The modern landscape of college athletics (aka money rules everything) makes it tough to imagine that OSU Hockey will make the jump from a club team to Division-I anytime soon, but this would be an awesome spotlight for the club.
