7-foot-1 Center Isaiah Miranda Removes Name from NBA Draft Sets OSU Visit

5/31/2023

Isaiah Miranda was reportedly set to consider Oklahoma State should he withdraw from the NBA Draft. Now it’s officially time the Cowboys step into the picture.

Miranda on Wednesday formally withdrew from the NBA Draft, and he now has an Oklahoma State visit scheduled. Andrew Slater reports that he has scheduled a visit to Stillwater starting Monday. A 7-foot-1, 205-pound center, Miranda joined NC State at the spring semester this past season but didn’t play for the Wolfpack before declaring for the draft and entering his name into the transfer portal.

After reclassifying from the 2023 class, Miranda was the No. 45 player in the 2022 recruiting class with offers to USC, Louisville, Memphis, Texas, UCLA and others. This isn’t the first time OSU has been involved with Miranda, as he picked up an OSU offer in July of 2021 before ultimately ending up at NC State.

Mike Boynton and Co. have had to rework the Cowboys’ frontcourt this offseason with the transfer portal departures of Kalib Boone (UNLV), Moussa Cisse (Ole Miss) and Tyreek Smith (SMU). Should Boynton be able to land Miranda, Miranda would join a frontcourt that includes incoming McDonald’s All-American Brandon Garrison and Jacksonville transfer Mike Marsh.

Boynton still has two available scholarships, though he could save one to cover OSU’s NCAA sanctions.

Incoming Freshman Eric Dailey Jr. to Participate in USA Basketball U19 National Team Training Camp

5/31/2023

Four-star hoops signee Eric Dailey Jr., one of five high school signees in OSU’s highly touted incoming 2023 class, will be one of 35 athletes competing for a roster spot on USA Basketball’s U19 roster later this summer, USA Basketball announced Wednesday.

Dailey will be at training camp competing for a spot and coached by his future coach, Mike Boynton, who will be involved as an assistant on the team.

Training camp will take place starting June 11 at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The 35 players competing for a spot will be narrowed to 12 players, and the 12 will compete June 24-July 2 in the FIBA U19 World Cup Championship in Debrecen, Hungary.

Dailey’s spot on the team is not assured, but he and his soon-to-be college coach have teamed up together with success already in the past on the FIBA circuit, having won gold medals together for Team USA at the FIBA U18 Americas Championship in the summer of 2022. Dailey has showcased his skills on the international circuit with USA Basketball to build a resume worthy of top-35 ranking at 247Sports, and earlier this spring he earned inclusion on the exclusive Nike Hoop Summit roster.

For Boynton, his participation as an assistant this summer will be the third consecutive summer he has helped with USA Basketball. He first served as a court coach in 2021 before earning a spot as an assistant at the FIBA U18 Americas Championship team in 2022.

Schedule Preview: Oklahoma State Hosts the Reigning Big 12 Champs Kansas State in Week 6

5/31/2023

Oklahoma State got thumped by Kansas State on the road last year, which ended up being the beginning of the end for the Cowboys’ Big 12 hopes after a fast start to 2022.

The Cowboys draw a short straw this year, with an early bye following their conference opener in Ames, Iowa. That means the Pokes will end the season with eight-straight weeks of Big 12 play without a break, and they’ll start it against the reigning conference champs.

Week 6: Kansas State

When: Oct. 6
Where: Stillwater, Okla.

Series history: 42-24

The Cowboys had won three straight against the Wildcats, and five of seven, before last year’s loss in the Little Apple. Mike Gundy is 8-6 against K-State during his tenure. The Cowboys will look to avoid consecutive defeats at the ‘Cats’ paws for just the second time since 2002.

Last meeting: The Cowboys got shut out 48-zip in Manhattan, the worst loss in Gundy’s tenure. That’s when the wheels came off. OSU came in 6-1 with its only loss coming by a touchdown to a TCU team that would end up in the national championship game. For the Cowboys, that historic loss would start a 1-5 finish to their season.

Kansas State in 2022: In Year 4 at the helm, Chris Klieman captained Kansas State to a 10-win season, a conference championship and a New Year’s 6 appearance. The Wildcats’ four losses came to ranked teams and they were able to avenge one of those in style — and pick up some hardware — dishing out some payback to TCU in the Big 12 Championship. It was K-State’s third Big 12 title and first in a decade.

Kansas State in 2023: The ‘Cats will be without All-American running back Deuce Vaughn, now a Dallas Cowboy, but do return Will Howard for Year 9 (?) in Manhattan. At running back, K-State returns DJ Giddens (an honorable mention for Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year) and brings in Florida State transfer Treshaun Ward (an All-ACC Honorable Mention who rushed for 649 yards and seven TDs last year). And they do return the offensive line that paved the way for Vaughn.

The Wildcats should be pretty stout up front defensively, despite losing elite pass rusher Felix Anudike-Uzomah. They return linebacker Daniel Green who decided to stick around for his “Super Senior” season instead of testing draft waters. But K-State is looking at a near complete rebuild in the back end with All-Big 12 safety Kobe Savage being the only DB to return with starting experience.

Key matchup: If there’s a weak link for the Wildcats, it’s that secondary. The Cowboys’ offense will look quite a bit different than it has the last four seasons. But with a proven passer in Alan Bowman and a handful of lethal deep threats for him to throw to, the Cowboys should be able to challenge that rebuilding group.

Colorado Reportedly in Serious Talks to Possibly Rejoin Big 12 Deion Sanders Support Could be Key

5/30/2023

Former Big 12 member Colorado may be may soon be current Big 12 member Colorado if realignment’s latest round of madness strikes Pac-12 land soon. CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd reported Tuesday that the Buffaloes’ brass have been in “substantive talks” with the Big 12 about possibly joining the league, a reunion that would end a more than decade-long partnership with the Pac-12, the league it joined after leaving the Big 12 in 2011.

Here’s Dodd with the scoop:

With the latest round of realignment having slowed to a crawl after a tumultuous two years, it appears as it may be close to picking up steam again. Colorado has been in “substantive” talks with the Big 12 about possibly joining the growing league, a source with knowledge of the discussions tells CBS Sports.

While a move out of the Pac-12 is not assured, Colorado is performing due diligence to determine whether to return to the conference it once called home. The Buffaloes, like the rest of the Pac-12, remain in wait-and-see mode regarding a new media rights deal that has yet to be solidified.

Colorado and the Big 12 have met face-to-face while involved in consistent talks over a period several months, according to multiple sources. It was made clear that a move to the Big 12 would not be made without the support of football coach Deion Sanders.

Oklahoma treasure Berry Tramel last week seemed to be the first on the potential swing in momentum indicating Colorado’s interest in finding footing with its old league. Tramel in The Oklahoman reported that a Big 12 source told him earlier in May that “Colorado is ready to commit to joining the Big 12 “soon.”

Colorado’s newfound interest in the Big 12 comes as the Pac-12’s imminent future becomes increasingly murky with stalled talks on a new television partner and with UCLA and USC leaving for the Big Ten.

Since OU and Texas announced their intentions to leave the Big 12 for the SEC, new Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark has done an admirable job making lemonade out of lemons to salvage and sustain the health of the league both short and long term. Those moves have come largely in the form of growth — with UCF, Cincinnati, Houston and BYU joining soon — but also with a new TV deal and some certainty that comes with that.

With the Big 12 striking a TV deal before the Pac-12, it seems to have mounted increasing pressure on the league and its members to find financial security — and soon. Each day that passes is another of uncertainty.

Colorado was previously in the Big 12 (which was previously the Big 8, which was previously the Big 7) dating all the way back to the 1940s before leaving for the Pac-12 — and what was believed to be a more stable financial future and better geographic partnership — in 2011. The school has faded in relevance over the last decade, though, and with Coach Prime now in charge of the football program and the school committed to investing its resources to once again becoming a nationally-relevant brand, now may be as good a time as ever to make the move and return home.

Isaiah Miranda a Name to Watch as NBA Draft Deadline Approaches

5/30/2023

The deadline for players to remove their names from the NBA Draft is Wednesday, which could start the next wave in transfer portal commitments.

One of those names, Oklahoma State fans will want to keep an eye on is Isaiah Miranda, according to Jeff Goodman. Should Miranda not stay in the draft, Goodman reports he would “strongly consider” Oklahoma State along with, UCF, Villanova, Georgetown and Florida State. Goodman reports that Miranda will have a workout Wednesday before the withdrawal deadline.

Miranda joined NC State midsemester but didn’t end up playing for the Wolfpack before declaring for the NBA Draft and then entering his name in the transfer portal.

Listed at 7-foot-1, 205 pounds on NC State’s roster, Miranda was a Top 50 player in his recruiting class with offers to UCLA, Texas, USC, Georgetown, Oklahoma State and others.

Oklahoma State still has two open scholarships after adding five incoming freshmen and three transfers thus far. Miranda would be a boost to the Cowboys’ reworked frontcourt that has seen Kalib Boone, Moussa Cisse and Tyreek Smith leave this offseason. Brandon Garrison is an incoming McDonald’s All-American and OSU also added Jacksonville transfer center Mike Marsh.
