PFB Picks: Predictions for Oklahoma States Trip to Lawrence

10/31/2025

After a trip to West Texas, the Cowboys are set to travel up to the Sunflower State in search of their first Big 12 win since the end of the 2023 season.

Oklahoma State plays Kansas at 3 p.m. Saturday in Lawrence. Here is how we see the game playing out.

Marshall Scott

Score: Kansas 38, Oklahoma State 17

OSU Player of the Game: Trent Howland

Uniform: White (Retro Brand) — White — White

Thoughts: As of writing, OSU is a 24.5-point underdog this weekend, so while I’m not predicting to pick the Pokes to win, I am picking them to cover. I think this game could go the way of OSU’s games against Baylor and Cincy, where the Cowboys are competitive to a point before the Jayhawks pull away and keep OSU at arm’s distance.

With Rodney Fields missing last week’s game because of injury and Sesi Vailahi fumbling twice, I think it’s finally Trent Howland season.

As for the uni, OSU hasn’t gone all white this season and with two road games left, you have to thing it’s coming. The Big 12 teased its retro logo this week, which is why I’m going for a surprise Retro Brand.

Kyle Cox

Score: 42-17

OSU Player of the Game: Gavin Freeman

Uniform: Orange (Cursive) – White – Orange

Thoughts: I’d like to predict a Cowboy win but there’s been nothing that I’ve seen from this team to instill that type of confidence. That being said, I have no clue how to pick this score. But the last two Kansas game have had this score in their opponents’ favor, maybe they’ll make it three in a row. I will go with Freeman to get some YAC off a short pass or maybe on special teams.

Tyler Waldrep

Score: Kansas 31, Oklahoma State 20

OSU Player of the Game: Rodney Fields Jr.

Uniform: White (Cursive Cowboys) — White — White

Thoughts: This could push the game either direction based on KU’s mental response, but Kansas was outscored 84-34 in its last two games and hasn’t won since squeaking out a win at UCF on Oct. 4. At 4-4, the Jayhawks likely need this one to avoid missing the postseason for a second consecutive season. One reason for the dire situation? West Virginia was the only one of KU’s last six opponents who failed to score at least 20 points.

Running back Rodney Fields is off the injury report, which should lift the Cowboys’ offense. It’s a big ask based on recent history, but if both sides can play complementary football for even a quarter or two, this could get close.

Oklahoma State Cross Country Dominates Big 12 Championships Musau Wins Third Straight Individual Title

10/31/2025

The top two men’s cross country teams faced off at the Big 12 Championships on Friday morning, and it was the No. 2 Cowboys strolling to another conference title.

Oklahoma State finished with 20 points (low points = better) thanks to OSU runners coming in first, second, fourth, sixth and seventh. Iowa State entered the meet as the No. 1 team in the country, but the Cyclones finished with 43 points thanks to scorers finishing third, fifth, 10th, 12th and 13th. The Big 12 Championship was held in Lawrence, Kansas this season.

Brian Musau, a junior from Machakos, Kenya, continues to be ridiculously good at running long distances. He finished first, running the 8K in 22:53.7. This is the third time (in three tries) Musau has won the individual Big 12 cross country title.

Here are some of the things on Musau’s growing resume:

2025 NCAA Champion (5K)
2025 Indoor NCAA Champion (5K)
2024 Indoor NCAA Champion (DMR)
2025 Indoor Big 12 Champion (3K)
2025 FISU World University Games Champion (10K)
2025 Cross Country Big 12 Champion
2024 Cross Country Big 12 Champion
2023 Cross Country Big 12 Champion
2024 Indoor Big 12 Champion (DMR)

That will certainly play.

OSU’s other scorers were junior Adisu Guadia (second), sophomore Denis Kipngetich (fourth), senior Fouad Messaoudi (sixth) and senior Ryan Schoppe (seventh)

It marks the Cowboys’ 18th conference title in cross country. It’s their 14th in the Big 12 era, and all of those have come since 2008 under coach Dave Smith. Since 2020, the Cowboys have won the Big 12 five times, only missing out on a conference title in 2024.

Smith’s Cowgirls finished fourth in the women’s 6K with 86 points. Freshman Isca Chelangat was the top-placing Cowgirl, finishing in fourth at 19:20.0.

Up next will be the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships, which OSU will host Nov. 14 at the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Court. The NCAA Cross Country Championships are slated for Nov. 22 in Columbia, Missouri.

Notebook: Why Cleveland Stayed Pahls National Standing and a 300-Pound Tight End

10/31/2025

STILLWATER — The storylines of this Oklahoma State football season have mainly had to do with things off the field, and with the Cowboys’ poor performance on the field this season, it’s easy to see why.

But, though they might not have to do with the Big 12 title picture, there are still on-field storylines taking place ahead of Oklahoma State’s trip to Lawrence for a game against the Jayhawks at 3 p.m. Saturday. Here are three.

Why Landyn Cleveland Stayed

When Mike Gundy was fired and the portal opened for OSU players, there probably weren’t many Cowboys who had more of an incentive to hop in than Landyn Cleveland … and he didn’t.

Cleveland is a true sophomore safety, meaning he had a redshirt available. On top of that, he was recruited to Stillwater by Bryan Nardo, who was let go after last season. And David Kabongo, Cleveland’s classmate who was also a true sophomore safety, did hop in.

Coming out of Mansfield Legacy High School, Cleveland had offers to Michigan, Oklahoma, Penn State, Texas and many more. But he elected to stick the rest of this season out with the Pokes.

“Last year, I was a true freshman,” Cleveland said. “I played, but I didn’t play how I wanted to. So, really, this year was really like I could go show everybody this is my time. This is what Landyn Cleveland can do.

“The coaches and all that, we had a chance to get in the portal. We had a chance to redshirt, but I just felt like why do that when I got seven more games to go play football and I know I can go out there and play. So, I didn’t see no point in doing it.”

Cleveland played 91 snaps across eight games as a freshman with 53 of those snaps coming on defense. In eight games as a sophomore, Cleveland has played 283 snaps, 226 of which have come on defense.

He’s made 27 tackles this season, 1.5 of which have been for loss. He’s also broken up a pair of passes.

Wes Pahl’s Heavy Workload Proves His Talent

Wes Pahl has gotten a lot of work in this season.

Pahl has punted 48 times, which is the second-most nationally trailing only UMass’ Keegan Andrews, and it’s not just that the Pokes’ punter is booting a lot of balls, he’s hammering them.

His 46.12 average ranks 16th nationally, a number that is sadly probably helped by OSU’s offensive deficiencies. Pahl is one of 10 punters who have booted a ball at least 71 yards this season. His 14 punts downed inside the 20-yard line are tied for 22nd nationally. His 4.15 average hang time ranks 12th nationally.

In many metrics, Pahl is one of the best punters in America, and his numbers are tested with him having so many data points.

“It basically just pops off your foot,” said Pahl when asked if he knows its a big kick off his foot. “Like when you play golf, swing just feels effortless, flies off your foot. Good contact, good swing, when it all comes together, it feels great.”

OSU’s ‘New’ 300-Pound Tight End

The other offensive linemen on OSU’s roster joke with Gage Stanaland that he’s a “part-timer.”

With redshirts, injuries and portal departures hitting OSU’s tight end room hard, Stanaland — a 6-foot-3, 300-pound redshirt sophomore from Tuscola, Texas — has been being used as a jumbo tight end in recent weeks. It’s happened so much of late that he is now rocking No. 89.

According to PFF, Stanaland has played 35 offensive snaps this season — 16 of which have come on the offensive line, with the other 19 coming at tight end. All of those tight end snaps have come in the Cowboys’ past three games.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Stanaland said. “I like being out on the edge. I like wearing number 89. I like doing what my coaches tell me, first and foremost, but it’s been a lot of fun.”

A pass hasn’t come his way yet, but Stanaland is open to the idea.

“I would love that,” Stanaland said. “I’d love to catch a ball, and I’d do my best to catch a ball.”

Daily Bullets (Oct. 31): Pokes Headed to Kansas Ollie Gordon and a Bad Call

10/31/2025

Thanks for stopping by – here’s your daily dose of Oklahoma State sports news.

OSU Bullets

• Check out what’s going on in college football this weekend with PFB’s watch guide

• Four things to know about OSU’s road trip to Kansas (PFB)

• Ollie Gordon got robbed on a call last night – accused of unnecessary roughness when he clearly tripped trying to block a rushing defender (X)

• Been curious to see if there was any smoke about Collin Klein to OSU, this update ($) pours water on any smoke:

Regarding Texas A&M offensive coordinator Collin Klein — I checked in with people at Texas A&M and at Kansas State and the consensus is that he is happy with his current role. Being a head coach someday is a goal, as he said in a press conference Monday, but as of right now, there’s no real worry that Klein is leaving College Station this cycle and he’s waiting for the right job, most likely in the SEC. Obviously, everything is fluid. [GoPokes 247 $$$]

Pretty clean injury report for #OKState this week. https://t.co/BENZwBqjlS pic.twitter.com/PYKL7BjEEe

Weekend Watch Guide: An Oklahoma State Fans Guide to Week 10 of the College Football Season

10/30/2025

From a national perspective, it feels like it should be Week 5 of the college football season. From an Oklahoma State perspective, it feels like it should be Week 110 of the college football season.

With November nearly upon us, the margin for error for some of these teams is shrinking. Here’s a look around the Big 12 and the country at some of the best games of the upcoming weekend.

Big 12 Schedule

West Virginia (2-6) at No. 22 Houston (7-1) — 11 a.m. Saturday on FS1
UCF (4-3) at Baylor (4-4) — 11 a.m. Saturday on ESPNU
Arizona State (5-3) at Iowa State (5-3) — 12 p.m. Saturday on TNT
No. 13 Texas Tech (7-1) at Kansas State (4-4) — 2:30 p.m. Saturday on FOX
Oklahoma State (1-7) at Kansas (4-4) — 3 p.m. Saturday on ESPN+
Arizona (4-3) at Colorado (3-5) — 6 p.m. Saturday on FS1
No. 17 Cincinnati (7-1) at No. 24 Utah (6-2) — 9:15 p.m. Saturday on ESPN

Arizona State-Iowa State: With three losses apiece, it’d probably take some doing at this point for either of these teams to make the College Football Playoff. Either would most likely need to win the Big 12, and that would be increasingly harder to do for whichever team loses this game.

After upsetting Texas Tech two weeks back, the Sun Devils stumbled against a Houston squad that continues to build its resume. The banged up Cyclones have now dropped three games in a row after starting 5-0.

Texas Tech-Kansas State: This game looked a lot more interesting in the preseason, but it’s still a sneaky good one.

It looks like Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton is set to return this weekend, and the Red Raiders need to keep him upright for the rest of the season after losing backup Will Hammond to a knee injury last week.

The Wildcats have found a bit of footing after a 1-3 start, with back-to-back blowout wins against TCU and Kansas.

Cincinnati-Utah: This is the Big 12’s game of the week, hands down.

The Bearcats are on a seven-game winning streak after opening the year with a neutral-field loss to Nebraska and are in a prime position to make it to Arlington. Cincy will, though, be without leading rusher Evan Pryor with an ankle injury.

Utah started the year 3-0 but got blown out by Texas Tech. The Utes have since clawed their way back into the Big 12 title picture despite a Holy War loss to BYU a few weeks back.

Other Games to Watch

No. 9 Vanderbilt (7-1) at No. 20 Texas (6-2) — 11 a.m. Saturday on ABC
No. 10 Miami (6-1) at SMU (5-3) — 11 a.m. Saturday on ESPN
Navy (7-0) at North Texas (7-2) — 11 a.m. Saturday on ESPN2
No. 18 Oklahoma (6-2) at No. 14 Tennessee (6-2) — 6:30 p.m. Saturday on ABC
No. 23 USC (5-2) at Nebraska (6-2) — 6:30 p.m. Saturday on NBC

Vandy-Texas: Texas moved conferences only to again find itself looking up at  a program it feels it should be much better than.

The Commodores didn’t look great in their win against Missouri last week, but an ugly win is certainly better than a pretty loss.

Arch Manning is questionable after being on the wrong end of a big hit in Texas’ overtime win against Mississippi State last week.

Navy-North Texas: For starters, OSU fans might want to watch this game to get a closer look at potential coaching candidate Eric Morris, but it’s also a big game in terms of the Group of Five’s College Football Playoff representative, as both of these teams are still in that hunt.

OU-Tennessee: The winner of this game stays in the Playoff hunt for at least another week, while the loser would likely need a little chaos to happen in front of them. This particularly feels like a massive game for OU, as after this week, the Sooners still have to play at Alabama, home against Missouri and home against LSU.

This game also comes with the built-in storyline of former OU quarterback Josh Heupel coaching against his alma mater.

Quarterback to Back: OSU Hopeful in Zane Flores Return Jalon Daniels Looking to Bounce Back

10/30/2025

The Cowboys and Jayhawks will square off on Saturday afternoon in Lawrence, and, as per usual, quarterback play will go a long way in dictating the outcome. Also, per usual, predicting which Cowboy will take snaps (and how many) is a guessing game.

We’ll get into what we know about this weekend’s QB matchup, but first let’s look at the numbers from the potential passers.

QB2B Flores Jackson Daniels
Att. 140 65 221
Comp. 77 34 147
Pct. 55% 52.3% 66.5%
Yds 696 358 1881
Yds/Att 5.0 5.5 8.5
TD 0 1 18
INT 3 2 3
Rating 92.47 97.51 162.18
QBR 35.4 (123rd) N/A 73.2 (28th)
Rushing TDs 1 1 2

Early this week, OSU interim head coach Doug Meacham said he was “hopeful” that Zane Flores would return to the field.

Flores took over in Week 1 after Hauss Hejny went down only to go down himself during the Cowboys’ loss to Arizona on Oct. 4. He hasn’t appeared in a game since.

Sam Jackson V went from spot duty and wildcat hero to the Cowboys’ QB1, a role he’s still not equipped (roster-wise) to fill. Results have been mixed from the standpoint of the offense, but no OSU quarterback has won an FBS game this season.

We know that story. Let’s see how it’s played out for the Jayhawks.

Jalon Daniels is in his sixth season at Kansas meaning he was recruited by Les Miles. Let that sink in.

Through the first eight games of his final season, Daniels is third in the Big 12 in completion % and yards per attempt. The Jayhawks’ offense has been fine, ranking 10th in the league scoring 30.5 points per game. They’re also 1oth in passing offense and rushing offense.

The Jayhawks are coming off their two worst offensive performances of the season, however, losing back-to-back games by a score of 42-17 to Texas Tech and Kansas State, respectively. But it was a tale of two outings for Daniels.

In Lubbock against the 13th-ranked Red Raiders, Daniels went 27/33 for 255 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 7.7 yards per attempt. In a home loss to K-State, he went just 17/35 for 129 and an interception. He averaged just 3.7 yards per attempt.

So coming off his worst game of the season, Daniels will look to get right, at home, against the league’s worst passing defense. The Cowboys and Jayhawks kick off at 3 p.m. Saturday at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.
