Since opening Tuesday, the transfer portal for men’s basketball has been flooded.
Players from far and wide have entered the portal with hopes of finding a greener pasture. A handful of Cowboys hit the portal on the opening day, but while the portal taketh, it also giveth. Here are five players who have been tied to OSU in the early portions of the window.
Quick note: The “Years Remaining” section on these is based on a four-year career rather than the proposed five-year career (someone make eligibility make sense again, please).
Devin Vanterpool, FAU
Height: 6-foot-4
Hometown: Laurel, Maryland
Years Remaining: 2
Vanterpool was voted as the American’s Most Improved Player after averaging 15.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists a game last season.
He Zoomed with Oklahoma State on Tuesday, according to Jeff Goodman, along with the guard Zooming with Maryland, Ohio State and Georgetown. He also has Zooms scheduled with Mississippi State and Providence.
He essentially came out of nowhere this season. Vanterpool took a redshirt under Dusty May in the 2022-23 season. He played in 30 games as a redshirt freshman but averaged just 7.9 minutes and two points a contest.
Vanterpool shot 35% from 3 this past season. He scored at least 20 points in eight contests and dropped 30 on Coastal Georgia back in November.
Keviar Kennedy, Merrimack
Height: 6-foot-2
Hometown: Philadelphia
Years Remaining: 3
Kennedy was the first player in MAAC history to earn the conference’s Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in the same season.
He averaged 18.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.9 steals a game as a freshman, leading the Warriors to a 23-11 record. Merrimack finished atop the MAAC standings but fell in the league’s tournament title game.
Kennedy has heard from OSU along with Auburn, UCLA, Rutgers and others, according to Rising Ballers Network.
He doesn’t shoot a ton of 3s, attempting just 1.2 a game (the same as Parsa Fallah did this year, for reference), but what he does extremely well is get to the foul line. Kennedy ranked 57th nationally in free-throw rate and 62nd nationally in fouls drawn per 40 minutes, per KenPom. And when he got there, he converted, sinking 81% of his foul shots. Of the 627 points he scored as a freshman, 224 came from the foul line, 364 came off 2-point shots and 39 came via the 3-point shot.
Terrence Brown, Utah
Height: 6-foot-3
Hometown: Minneapolis
Years Remaining: 1
Utah stunk this past season, but this Ute certainly didn’t have a hard time finding the basket.
Brown averaged 19.9 points a game in his first season at the high-major level after transferring from Fairleigh-Dickinson. Brown scored in double figures in 29 of the 32 games he played in as a Ute.
He’s heard from OSU along with North Carolina, Oklahoma, USC, Louisville and others, per Rising Ballers Network.
He scored at least 20 points 18 times. That includes a 20-point game against OSU in late January. Brown scored in the 30s twice — a 36-point performance against Weber State and a 33-point game against Kansas State.
He also averaged 2.4 boards, 3.8 assists and 1.4 steals a game. Brown shot 33% from 3 this past season — his best percentage in a college season.
In his final season at FDU, Brown led the NEC in scoring, averaging 20.6 points a game. He also led that league in steals, averaging 2.2 a contest.
Tomas Thrastarson, Washington State
Height: 6-foot-7
Hometown: Thorlakshofn, Iceland
Years Remaining: 2
An Icelandic wing, Thrastarson averaged 8.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists a game as a sophomore at Wazzu this past season.
He’s heard from OSU along with OU, Indiana, Virginia, DePaul and others, according to Sam Kayser.
He also has international experience, playing with some Icelandic youth teams. At the 2024 FIBA U20 EuroBasket, Thrastarson averaged 16.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists a game. And at the 2023 FIBA U20 European Championships he averaged 15.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists a game.
Thrastarson shot 33% from 3 in his first two seasons in the college game on just 1.6 attempts a contest.
He dealt with injury this season, playing in just 19 games because of a stress fracture in his left foot. Thrastarson was named to the WCC All-Freshman team in 2024-25 after averaging 4.5 points and 3.1 boards a contest.
Isaiah Manning, Sam Houston
Height: 6-foot-8
Hometown: Mansfield, Texas
Years Remaining: 2
There was some mutual interest between OSU and Manning when he was coming out of Mansfield Legacy High School, but he elected to stay closer to home at TCU. He then moved on to Sam Houston ahead of this past season, where he averaged 10.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists a game in his lone season as a Bearkat.
He’s hearing from OSU along with Memphis, Oregon State, Utah State, Arizona State and others, per The Portal Report.
Manning redshirted at TCU during the 2023-24 season before taking part in 24 of the Horned Frogs’ games in 2024-25. He averaged two points and 7.3 minutes a game in that season before making the move the Sam Houston.
He shot 35% from deep this past season on 3.9 attempts a game, which is solid for a player of Manning’s size.
Manning played the first 16 games of Sam Houston’s season before missing the rest of the year. He scored in double figures in nine of those contests, including a 16-point outing against Oklahoma State in Gallagher-Iba.
