The new Oklahoma State staff did a lot of good work in the transfer portal, but their best work might’ve come in the receiver room.
Drew Mestemaker will have plenty of good options to throw the ball to in 2026 — some familiar and some new. We continue our spring position previews with a look at the Cowboys’ wide receivers.

Overview
This marks the first position we’ve previewed that has some returners.
Matrail Lopez and Kam Powell each return after redshirting in 2025 and will continue their development in Stillwater.
Outside of that, the Cowboys took some big swings in the transfer portal.
Wyatt Young joins the Cowboys after finishing third nationally with 1,264 receiving yards at North Texas last season. He was Mestemaker’s go-to target, a connection the two can further develop in orange and black.
But the Cowboys didn’t just stop at North Texas receivers.
New receivers coach Nick Edwards was one of the few coaches who didn’t follow Eric Morris from North Texas. Edwards coached at Washington State and Wake Forest the past two seasons and is brining a weapon with him to Stillwater in Chris Barnes. Barnes caught 39 passes for the Demon Deacons last season, going for 547 yards and three scores. A do-it-all slot, Barnes also had 143 rushing yards (on 11 yards a carry) and 263 return yards in 2025.
Justin Bowick led Illinois in receiving touchdowns last season with five. He played in just four games with Ball State in 2024, and in that time caught 20 passes for 383 yards and three TDs.
The trio of Young, Barnes and Bowick were all labeled as four-star transfers.
Two-Deep Prediction
WR1s: Wyatt Young (North Texas), Justin Bowick (Illinois), Chris Barnes (Wake Forest)
WR2s: Miles Coleman (North Texas), Israel Polk (Akron), Jani Weir (Fullerton College)
I feel somewhat confident about that top group and also think Miles Coleman and Israel Polk will be heavily involved.
I fell in love with Jani Weir’s junior college highlights on Signing Day. Similar to Barnes and Coleman, Weir is a speedster. He had 877 receiving yards and 1,300 all-purpose yards at Fullerton College last season. How his skills translate to the Power Four level, I’m not sure. But fast is fast.
Coleman and Mestemaker have a longstanding relationship growing up together in Austin and attending the same high school. Coleman had 47 catches as a true sophomore last season for 550 yards and two scores.
