Before I check out for Labor Day weekend and start prepping my pork butt for my new pellet smoker, I figured I might as well acknowledge that my beloved University of Oklahoma Sooners kick off their 2024 football season tomorrow against Temple.

From about the age of 10 to 30, nothing in the world was more important to me than OU football. It’s still pretty high up there—I do plan my autumn weekends around their schedule—but the consume-every-newspaper-article, name-every-player-on-the-depth-chart, and write-Mike-Lupica-a-mean-email level fanaticism I once had is gone.

Getting old sucks, huh?

Yesterday afternoon, the Oklahoma City Council officially approved a request by airport officials to change the name of Will Rogers World Airport — a.k.a. our beloved “world” airport that only flies to a couple of dozen American cities.

In Oklahoma City, the fusion of Mexican comida and ichiban sushi is practically nonexistent, usually taking form in the most rank buffets this side of I-240. I’ve been there, I’ve tried them, and it was not very appetizing.

But, on a recommendation, I went to Sonora Querida, 3608 N. May Ave., Suite A, and, truly, I have seen the holy mountain—and it was glorious!

For as long as I can remember, the perennial local sandwich shop City Bites occupied the sleepy northwest corner at N. May and NW 59th. So, imagine my sullen surprise when, during a recent trip down May, I discovered it had been gutted, replaced by a new concept.

Sure, City Bites was just "alright," but at least you knew what you were getting from OKC’s “hippest” sandwich shop. And, let’s be honest, there was something oddly alluring about that lady in the sunglasses logo that made me crave a sandwich every time.

The OKC Zoo’s decision to outsource the management of its beloved amphitheater to Save Live – the out-of-state venture capital group that's trying its best to monopolize the OKC concert market – is going great!
