Earlier this week, Yawn Doc published a lengthy and patently snoozy exposé about an embezzlement investigation involving former Performing Arts Council of Edmond (a.k.a. PACE) president Kyle Owen. 

The gist of the story is that Kyle – who is also the “Director of Worship Arts” for New Covenant United Methodist Church in Edmond – allegedly made more than 100 personal charges totaling nearly $12,000 on the booster club’s dime while serving as its President in 2023 and 2024.

To start off, I suppose I should say sorry, but I don’t really “get” the Oklahoma City Thunder and the hoopla (hoops?) around them.

Don’t get me wrong, I am perfectly “okay” with their success—or really any Oklahoma sports team, to be sure—but I tend to enjoy more outré things like demolition derbies, bowling for dollars, or, especially, competitive eating.

Over the past few decades—four of them, in fact!—I have avoided most restaurants around Northwest Expressway, simply because they usually promise boring, casual dining at staid chains like Applebee’s, TGIF, or, God forbid, Golden Corral.

But with many of those chains closing and more locally owned spots popping up along the metro’s diagonal thoroughfare, I decided to finally put my Expressway demons to rest and check out Dulce Vida Tacos & Tequila at 4825 Northwest Expressway.

Meaning “Sweet Life” – something I was hoping to experience myself – it’s a newish, locally owned neo-Mexican restaurant that’s taken over the old Applebee’s location (and a few other failed concepts before it).

In case you missed it, the former OKC Thunder punchline whose haircut, athleticism, and jump shot horrified fans for a brief moment in the mid-2010s was arrested in the backwoods of Haskell County – a.k.a. Southeastern Oklahoma – for apparently getting high on something and assaulting his girlfriend.
