With both longtime favorites and newer selections taking the top spots, 2024 was a banner year for The Lost Ogle—and, more importantly, for me and my TLO restaurant reviews.

Win-win!

TLO 69: The Best Dumbest and Most Clickable Stories of 2024 (Part 1)

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season, and the joy, anxiety, and seasonal depression it brings!

Outside of Gentner Drummond revealing his inner-Derplahoman nutjob and dismissing charges against the brave OKC cop who bodyslammed a defenseless 80-something-year-old man to the ground for arguing a traffic ticket, it's been a pretty slow news week.

TLO Pre-Holiday Break News Dump

12/23/2024

Before Louis and I take the next two weeks off for a well-deserved break – excluding, of course, our annual year-end feature –  I thought I’d touch base on some local news items that we'd normally cover, but won't have time to get to.

Before I get to those, I do have a housekeeping note to cover:

TLO Restaurant Review: VAST

12/23/2024

For most of the year, I usually have a set budget when it comes to restaurant reviews and, typically, I have to stick with it. But, for one special day of the year, TLO head honcho Patrick suspends all that criteria and takes me and my guest to a most swanky holiday dinner where money is certainly no object, at least to me.

This year, Patrick took us to the very world-class restaurant VAST, perched at the top of the impressive Devon building downtown.

Governor Stitt Ending Year on Extra-Scroogy Note!

12/19/2024

Fresh off an out-of-the-office workcation to Asia where he wined and dined with foreign dignitaries, gave them cowboy hats, and showed off his impressive height, Ole’ Stitter issued a proclamation yesterday requiring “all full-time employees to perform their work in the office, facility, or field location assigned by their agency, and not from a remote location by February 1, 2025."

In the proclamation, Stitt claims he’s implementing the policy to “ensure state employees are operating at the best of their abilities while being compensated by taxpayer dollars,” but we all know the real reason – weed out happy employees who like working from home, pander to his DOGE friends in Washington, and show Paycom Solo-CEO Chad Richison that they do have some things in common.

Words of a Feather: Inside Normans Green Feather Book Company

I recently heard about a new bookstore in Norman that really gives it to Ryan Walters.

Intrigued, I decided to check out the Green Feather Book Company, located at 300 W. Gray St., Suite 108/110 while doing my holiday shopping last week. I can confirm the extreme dislike for Ryan Walters is off the charts and that I, for one, absolutely adore it.

Coach Pat Jones Out at The Sports Animal

The OKC radiowaves are a little less stuttery.

Over the past couple of days, I’ve received multiple emails from concerned readers asking the whereabouts of Sports Animal radio host and Porky Pig voice impersonator Pat Jones.

Tulsa Man Who Spells Concert with a K Gets $3-Million Loan to Save Gold Dome

It looks like we have a new topic for our Overly Ambitious Oklahoma Business Projects Trivia Quiz!

Earlier this week, something called the Classen Corridor Revitalization TIF Review Committee – or TCCRTIFRC for short – announced they’re giving a $3-million loan to a concert promoter from Tulsa to flip the flawed and troubled money pit known as the Gold Dome on NW 23rd and Classen into a concert venue and event center.

TLO Restaurant Review: Grand House China Bistro

12/17/2024

Around the holiday season—more specifically, Christmas—many people who don’t have family or friends to celebrate with often turn to Chinese food for the holiest meal of the day. Silent night, lonely night!

Growing up, my family didn’t celebrate Christmas. We were the working poor and rarely went out for dinner. Instead, we made do with permanently dented cans of La Choy Beef Chow Mein, complete with vegetables and sauce, a canister of crispy chow mein noodles, and—joy of joys—a broken fortune cookie with no fortune.

But, nowadays, I can totally eat Chinese food—or really any food I want—alone for Christmas. And when I do, I “church it up” with the nominally stable Grand House China Bistro, Oklahoma City’s long-running and most celebrated restaurant of any cultural genre.
