331 BC - Alexander the Great defeats Darius III of Persia

1867 - Karl Marx’s “Das Kapital” published

1888 - National Geographic published for 1st time

1949 - People’s Republic of China proclaimed by Mao Zedong (National Day)

1957 - 1st appearance of “In God We Trust” on US paper currency

1988 - Steffi Graf wins 1st and only Golden Slam - Grand Slam and Olympics - in history

2012 - California becomes 1st US state to ban conversion therapy for minors

2017 - Stephen Paddock shoots dead 58 people, and injures 489 at a concert in Las Vegas in the deadliest mass shooting in American history
