The House Democrat caucus shrank last night as 4 more House seats went over to the Republican majority, with another seat still too close to call.
Rural Oklahoma Democrats remain in freefall as David Perryman's vacated seat goes Republican, in the Chickasaw area. Matt Meredith lost decisively to Bob Culver in eastern Oklahoma, near the Tahlequah area. Former House Dem. Leader, Steve Kouplen lost his rematch against the unfunded Republican incumbent, Logan Phillips. Even in the new Democrat stronghold of the OKC area, Kelly Albright was turned out of office in the Midwest City area. Eric Roberts also took away an OKC area Democrat seat when he defeated incumbent Chelsea Branham. Ben Loring of Miami did not file for another term Republican Steve Bashore was unopposed for that seat. Dem. incumbent, Jacob Rosecrants, may win a razor-thin victory in a Norman race where he holds a 79-vote margin among over 20,000 cast votes. The mail-in ballots gave him a huge margin. It would seem an ideal place to investigate ballot integrity in the way mass mailings are processed in the Cleveland County Election Board. |
In the Oklahoma senate, the Dems remain in single digits as several races went Republican, even with massive infusions of outside money.
In Tulsa, a leftist Democrat (Allison Ikley-Freeman) was voted out by Cody Rogers, with a roughly 2:1 margin. But the well-funded Jo Anna Dossett won an open seat in South Central Tulsa County. Her brother, JJ, is an Owasso Senator. Sen. Stephanie Bice was in the middle of her term when she won a congressional race last night. She defeated the lone Democrat in Oklahoma's congressional delegation, Kendra Horn. Bice will vacate that Northern OKC metro seat when she's sworn in, in early January. These Republican advances will seal total control of the all-important Census Redistricting, in this next legislative session. It's expected that OKC & Tulsa will see significant remapping for the decade ahead. Within the Republican Party, Several 'RINO' legislators were turned out of office in the summer primaries. It could effect the selection of House & Senate leadership appointments when the lawmakers meet in caucus, over the coming months. |
The Oklahoma Republican Party had a massively successful 2020 election effort. Sure, they lost some races in South Tulsa. But Rural Oklahoma is now effectively a 1-party state. The last 3 rural Democrat seats in Miami, Chickasaw, and Tahlequah are now in Republican hands.
The Democrat party is now only prevailing in 4 counties, when it comes to legislative elections. Tulsa, Cleveland, Oklahoma, & Payne Counties are run by socialists in the Omar/Cortez/Sanders/Warren ideology. Within the Republican party, ideological battles are mostly going to the tea party right. The defeat last June of Fincher, Shaw, & Sharp; are evidence that the citizens want real conservative principles to be advanced. Other primary elections resulted in defeat for incumbents because of personality flaws or other local factors. |

Trump won all 77 Oklahoma counties. So did Jim Inhofe, in the US Senate race.
There are many opportunities for further Republican gains, but finding the best candidates and messages is the remaining task toward the goal of identifying with a majority of voters in urban demographics.
