AFP Announces Support for Parental Choice Education Tax Credit Plan
OKC, OK – Americans for Prosperity Oklahoma, the state’s largest grassroots activist group today announced their support for Oklahoma HB1935 by Speaker Charles McCall. The bill creates the Oklahoma Parental Choice Tax Credit Act and offers a $5000 per child tax credit for students enrolled in private school in the state. The Act also offers a voluntary $2500 tax credit for families who homeschool their children.
AFP urged the support for the measure with legislators as a Key Vote Alert, a vote which the organization will likely be considered in our 2024 Legislative Scorecard.
The measure passed 75-25 on Wednesday.
Both credits can be used for qualifying expenses such as: school tuition, tuition and fees for nonpublic online learning programs, tutoring services, services contracted for and provided by a public school district, such as extracurricular activities and programs; textbooks, curriculum, or other instructional materials, and fees for nationally standardized assessments among others.
John Tidwell, state director of Americans for Prosperity applauded the plan: “The opportunities provided by this plan are unlimited. Children in Oklahoma will no longer be a victim of their own educational circumstances and their families now have tremendous access to opportunities that once only seemed like a dream.”
“I believe that this plan sends a clear message to parents and students facing new choices in their education options: someone believes in you.”
