Members of AFP Oklahoma just visited the southern border in Yuma, Arizona to assess the infrastructure and state of border security. Our experience was alarming to witness firsthand the ongoing humanitarian and security crisis that border communities experience every day. In the absence of true immigration reform from the federal government, we witnessed a resilient community incorporating bottom-up solutions to address the growing challenges.
We took the time to speak with elected officials, Border Patrol agents (prior and current), school leaders, and law enforcement agencies, about the true impact of the #BorderCrisis. If one thing was made very clear, it was that these problems are not just limited to border states. These are problems trickling in to all communities around the country.
It is time to quit kicking the can down the road. I invite you to help us encourage lawmakers to support real transformational immigration policy. AFP Oklahoma Plans to host a dinner event in the coming weeks to share our findings with people, and discuss how to best get involved. Stay tuned for dates and times.
