1487 - The 1st German Beer Purity Law is passed in Munich, stating that beer should be brewed from only 3 ingredients - water, malt, and hops

1876 - Archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann find the gold Mask of Agamemnon at Mycenae, the Mona Lisa of prehistory (pictured)

1982 - “Thriller” studio album by Michael Jackson is released

October 3rd, 1952: The United Kingdom officially becomes the world’s third nuclear power after testing a weapon in the Montebello Islands, Western Australia.

The Montebello Islands are now a park, though tourists are advised to limit visits to affected areas to a max of 1 hour per day. The area is also home to one of Australia’s best oil and natural gas drilling regions. The islands are also an important environment for several endangered species.
