1775 - 1st abolitionist society in US formed in Philadelphia

1792 - France declares war on Austria, starting the French Revolution

1865 - President Lincoln shot by John Wilkes Booth at Ford Theater (pictured)

1935 - Black Sunday: severe dust storm ravages the US Midwest; led to the region being named “the Dust Bowl”

2003 - Human Genome Project is completed with 99% of human genome sequenced to 99.99% accuracy
