November 15th, 1985: The Anglo-Irish Agreement is signed by Prime Minister Thatcher and Taoiseach FitzGerald. It ultimately failed to unite the people of Northern Ireland or bring an end to the political violence there, and was opposed on both sides, but is seen as a key stepping stone for eventual peace.
