1462 - Vlad III the Impaler attempts to assassinate Mehmed II (The Night Attack)forcing him to retreat from Wallachia (pictured)
1631- Mumtaz Mahal dies during childbirth; her husband, Mughal emperor Shah Jahan I then spends the next 20 years building her tomb - the Taj Mahal
1885 - Statue of Liberty arrives in NYC aboard French ship
1901 - The College Board introduces it’s 1st standardized test, forerunner to SATs
1915 - The League to Enforce Peace is organized in Philadelphia with William Taft as president, its program anticipates the League of Nations
1963 - Supreme Court rules against Bible reading/prayer in public schools
1991 - South Africa abolishes the last of it’s apartheid laws
1994 - OJ Simpson doesn’t turn himself in on murder charges and the LA police chase the Ford Bronco for 1 ½ hours before he eventually gives up (seen on national tv)
