Having overheard the plans of British General Gage at the Green Dragon Tavern in Boston, Paul Revere and others set out on their midnight ride to warn their countrymen of the British plan to seize their weapons and gun powder. Having been warned, the Minutemen assembled at Lexington Green. Though outnumbered more than 10 to 1, these brave liberty loving farmers and tradesmen stood their ground. The American Revolution had begun.
Today, in this nation our forefathers won for us, we once again face many of the same infringements and violations of our rights that they did. How will we honor their blood and sacrifice? How will we rise up against these infringements of our rights and demand our liberty remain intact?
As President Reagan once warned us: "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same." Today, we must protect our freedom just as the Minutemen once did on Lexington Green.
