Actor James Van der Beek unloaded on the DNC this week on social media for their refusal to hold primary debates with Joe Biden, saying it’s time for them to “do their f**king job!”

“There’s no debate? Are you f**king kidding me? There’s no debate over an 80-year-old man who’s obviously declining. You put him on a podium with flash cards! You’re telling us there’s no debate?? What about the will of the people?” he said.

DEAL: Chip Roy Puts On His Armor From the Safety of the Castle on Debt Deal | Steve Berman

5/31/2023

The list of House Freedom Caucus and other Republicans who have pledged to vote against Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s deal with the White House to pass a new debt ceiling bill, falls just short of something that would actually kill it. I say that’s by design. There might be a vote held to “vacate the chair” but I’m fairly sure McCarthy considered that and took measures to ensure his own survival. At this point, it’s pure theater of the fantasy utopians.

The calculus is very simple. If Congress doesn’t pass some kind of authorization for the Treasury to take on more federal debt, then our government will stop functioning in an efficient manner, and the markets will reflect the absolute chaos and betrayal of trust the politicians have wrought and at that point will fully deserve.

So when Roy said. “I want to be very clear: not one Republican should vote for this deal. Not one.” And when he echoed the same words heard from Reps. Dan Bishop, Wesley Hunt, Nancy Mace, Keith Self, and others, Roy was yelling from a position of safety, knowing he can scream against the bill and also be relieved that it will pass. “If you’re out there watching this, every one of my colleagues, I’m gonna be very clear: not one Republican should vote for this deal. It is a bad deal.”

The debt deal isn’t perfect, but it’s what was negotiated between the Speaker and the White House, with McCarthy meeting in person with President Biden. Lawmakers on the hill know that there’s literally just days to go, and they played this thing down to the wire. They would not take the chance to actually sink the deal if they weren’t secure in the knowledge that, at the eleventh hour, McCarthy will pull it off. And it will also pass the Senate, if only by the tiebreaker vote of Vice President Kamala Harris.

And in a fabulous display of bipartisan hackery, President Biden will sign it, then everyone will go back to campaigning, secure in the knowledge that this particular goblin won’t be back until after the 2024 election. You realize that was the whole point of the entire negotiation, right? I have faith that readers understand the political landscape well enough to realize that what emanates out of Washington D.C. through the press is—well—lies, or at best, contrived and not reflective of the real motives and activities of our esteemed legislators, executive branch functionaries, and media spinmeisters.

The Congressional Budget Office—generally a fair arbiter—found that the debt deal would reduce the federal deficit (that’s the growth of the debt, mind you, not the debt itself) by $1.5 trillion over the next 10 years. If true, which it likely is, for this current moment, until the next things that overrides it, it’s better than an ever-increasing deficit, which is the track this nation’s been on for quite some time.

The debt deal is likely the best both sides could get from the other in substance. The only bipartisan agreement is that Congress and the White House won’t have to deal with this again until after the election is out of the way. Well, that and our government gets to keep writing checks.

But no matter, the House Freedom Caucus and its Knights Templar have put on their armor, mounted their steeds, and from the safety of the castle walls, have shouted for the destruction of the enemy. I like Chip Roy. He’s an intelligent, soulful man whose personal battle with cancer is both inspiring and brave. Roy is a competent legislator. But in this case, he knows he’s wrong, and is just making a performative play to get attention, along with the rest of the “nay” voters.

WATCH: Cameraman Takes Out Climate Protesters During Televised Dance Competition

They f***ed around, and they found out.

A group of climate activists who interrupted Sweden’s popular dance competition show, ‘Let’s Dance’ on Friday, got more than they’d bargained for.

As Olympic skier Charlotte Kalla and partner Tobias Karlsson showcased their paso doble, the activists stormed the stage, flaunting a banner and flinging yellow powder. A member of the group, Återställ Våtmarker, translating to ‘Restore Wetlands’, faced an unforeseen blow from a swiftly swinging camera crane, knocking him down, a maneuver that seemed intentional. Multiple videos on Twitter recorded the swift removal of all activists following this unexpected incident.

Dodgers Pitcher Clayton Kershaw Comes Out Against Team Honoring Anti-Christian Group

5/30/2023

Los Angeles Dodgers’ star pitcher, Clayton Kershaw, recently voiced his disapproval over the franchise’s decision to honor the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a group notorious for their irreverent performances lampooning Catholicism.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Kershaw, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, commented, “I don’t agree with making fun of other people’s religions. It has nothing to do with anything other than that. I just don’t think that, no matter what religion you are, you should make fun of somebody else’s religion.”

This controversy has emerged as the Dodgers prepare to acknowledge the group during their annual Pride Night scheduled for June 16th. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, known for dressing as grotesque caricatures of nuns and mocking elements of Christianity, have drawn criticism for their performances. Kershaw mentioned that watching their videos was “tough.”

In response, Kershaw announced the timely return of the Dodgers’ “Christian Faith and Family Day.” He explained, “I think we were always going to do Christian Faith Day this year, but I think the timing of our announcement was sped up. Picking a date and doing those different things was part of it as well. Yes, it was in response to the highlighting of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence [by the Dodgers].”

GRUESOME NEWSOM: Gavin Blames Florida Shooting on DeSantis Law That Wont Take Effect Until July

5/30/2023

Gavin Newsom was brutally fact-checked on Twitter this week after he blamed a Florida mass shooting on a gun law signed by Governor Ron DeSantis; a measure that won’t take effect until July.

Hi Gavin,

How does a law that doesn’t take effect until July 1st change this outcome? pic.twitter.com/LM97HL6vLD

— Jeremy Redfern (@JeremyRedfernFL) May 30, 2023

From Fox News:

California Gov. Gavin Newsom was fact-checked by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ spokesman after he blamed the Memorial Day shooting in Hollywood, Florida, on laws DeSantis signed that are not yet in effect.

At least nine people, including minors, were hospitalized Monday after an altercation escalated into gunfire at the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk, police said. Police detained one person of interest in the shooting while another remains at large.

Newsom reacted to reports of the shooting on social media, blaming gun violence on a bill DeSantis signed in April that eliminates the requirement for an individual to obtain a permit to carry a concealed firearm.

However, DeSantis press secretary Jeremy Redfern replied shortly afterward, noting that the bill Newsom referenced is not yet in effect.

“Hi Gavin,” Redfern said. “How does a law that doesn’t take effect until July 1st change this outcome?”

Newsom’s claims about the constitutional carry law removing requirements for background checks are also misleading.
