“In California we believe in equality and acceptance,” Newsom said in a signing statement. “We believe that no one should be prosecuted or persecuted for getting the care they need — including gender-affirming care. According to a report from an ABC News afiliate, Speaker fo the HOuse Nancy Pelosi, during remarks at the U.S. Capitol Friday, claimed Florida farmers are saying they need immigrants “to pick crops.”

“Right now, the best thing that we can do for our economy is to have comprehensive immigration reform,” Pelosi said while discussing the national imperatives of both securing the border and welcoming newcomers. “We have a shortage of workers in our country, and you see even in Florida, some of the farmers and the growers saying ‘Why are you shipping these immigrants up North? We need them to pick the crops down here.'”

MSNBC host Joy Reid is ecstatic that Florida lawmakers will need the help of the federal government to rebuild the Sunshine State in the wake of Hurricane Ian; DeSantis must go “hat in hand” to Biden, she says.

Reid mentioned the irony of DeSantis asking for government aid now, when he voted against giving it to New York and New Jersey for their storm damage while he was in Congress and a member of the Tea Party movement.  

Reid made her remarks during the Thursday evening episode of her MSNBC talk show, “The ReidOut,” where she spoke with former Republican U.S. congressman from Florida, David Jolly.

Reid stressed because of the nature of the damage to Florida homes and the state’s infrastructure, “People are going to have to go to FEMA. People are going to have to go to the feds for that money.”

She then dinged DeSantis for once being a U.S. congressman who voted against aid to other disaster-stricken states. “When Ron DeSantis was in Congress, and you guys were in Congress, when he was a Tea Party freshman, when New York and New Jersey faced the exact same tragedy – I mean literally the subways in New York were flooded, people could have drowned in the subway.

She continued: “When Ron DeSantis had the opportunity to make that decision and say, ‘well should the people of New York and New Jersey, who were hit by a catastrophic hurricane they weren’t even used to,’ he said ‘No, that shouldn’t happen.’”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is stepping up efforts to push through Ukraine’s NATO application in the wake of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s move to annex four Ukrainian regions.

According to Fox News, “It was not immediately clear how Kyiv has pushed its application along but Zelenskyy, who has vowed to keep fighting Russia despite its illegal annexation, said Ukraine has already proven a ‘compatible’ partner to NATO.”

“De facto, we have already proven compatibility with alliance standards. They are real for Ukraine – real on the battlefield and in all aspects of our interaction,” he said. “We trust each other, we help each other, and we protect each other. This is the alliance.”

Zelenskyy’s comments followed a speech and signing ceremony led by Russian President Vladimir Putin in which he claimed Moscow had received overwhelming support for its illegal seizure.

Republican lawmakers demanded Joe Biden take a cognitive test this week after the President repeatedly asked to speak with a deceased person at a White House event.

According to a report from The Daily Mail, Alison Russo-Elling, 61, a close to 25-year-veteran of the FDNY, was stabbed to death while aiding a patient in Astoria, Queens. Russo-Elling was a first responder when the World Trade Center was attacked in 2001.

Alison Russo-Elling, 61, was killed on duty at about 2.20pm on Thursday in what has been described a ‘vile and barbaric’ stabbing, by a person allegedly known to the patient she was helping.

The deadly incident took place in broad daylight when a male, 34, wearing a light grey shirt and dark pants brandished a knife and viciously stabbed her numerous times about her body.

It’s believed the mother was out ‘getting food nearby’ when she was knifed to death. 

Mayor Eric Adams said tonight that the suspect has been arrested and ‘will be held accountable for his actions.’

Six Republican-lead states are suing the Biden Administration for the billions in student debt cancellation Joe proposed in an attempt to gain some “Joe-mentum” leading into midterms. The only problem: it may not be legal and could have devastating effects on an already-struggling economy.

From The Washington Times:

“The economy is not well,” reads the lawsuit filed in federal court in Missouri. “And there is no sign of relief.”

The Biden administration announced in August plans to cancel $10,000 to $20,000 of student debt per borrower for those who make less than $125,000 a year — or $250,000 for married couples.

“In addition to being economically unwise and downright unfair, the Biden Administration’s Mass Debt Cancellation is yet another example in a long line of unlawful regulatory actions. No statute permits President Biden to unilaterally relieve millions of individuals from their obligation to pay loans they voluntarily assumed,” reads the 36-page lawsuit.

The attorneys general from Arkansas, Nebraska, South Carolina, Missouri and Kansas are asking the court to pause the action, arguing the proposal exceeds presidential authority and would violate the Constitution and federal law. Iowa joined the lawsuit through its Republican governor.
