Retired Army Sgt. Joe Cantasano shared a vulnerable video of himself on TikTok, expressing his frustrations with the health care he receives (or doesn't receive) from Veterans Affairs. When people point to the VA as an example of why the government has no place running this country's health care, this video is an example of why.
Some of the issues Sgt. Cantasano is dealing with are issues other Americans deal with trying to stay with the same health care provider. There is one key difference though. The VAs one job is to make sure he doesn't have to.

I gotta open f*cking Pandora's box again [every time he has to switch to a new therapist] because they're gonna want to know everything, and I'm gonna have to live through that for a month. It's not a lot to ask, I just want to be able to talk to the same person, and not have to retell these f*cking stories that torment me.
This is the line that really cut me.
I've been doing it all on my own, just white-knuckling it.
Every year or half a year when a different Hashtag Mental Health holiday comes up, we all say how "you are not alone" and "you are not a burden." It's clear that is not the case.
Even more infuriating, I don't know if you know this or not, but MANY of our veterans suffer from PTSD. The horrors of war are known to do that. It's one thing if the VA can't fill a prescription or might have a long wait to get a surgery authorized. But how the f*ck is helping veterans with their mental health NOT the one thing they do right?
Sgt. Cantasano says in a follow-up video that by allowing himself to be vulnerable and share an extremely emotional situation and an all too common problem inside veteran healthcare, he wanted to effect change and draw attention to the situation. It sounds like he's done that.
The problem is it should never have gotten so far that someone who risked their life for our country needed to post to social media to draw that attention.
