Democrat Reintroduces Bills To Create National LGBTQ Museum Claims "Attacks And Attempts To Erase Our History"

While the average American worries about the rising cost of groceries and pretty much everything else, some people in Congress are focused on creating a museum for gay people because of “equality” or something.

In what some progressives may consider a “stunning” or “brave” move, U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan, a gay Democrat from Wisconsin, has put forward two bills on Friday aimed at creating a National Museum of American LGBT History and Culture.

You know, because they just want to be treated like everyone else. Except, most people don't have museums dedicated to their sexual preferences. But that’s beside the point.

It is also unclear what they mean by "LGBT culture" but I assume this means a drag queen and furries exhibit. Obviously, it's safe to assume this museum won't include anything about "straight" culture due to efforts to advance "equality."

“As our community faces unprecedented attacks and attempts to erase our history, we must preserve and protect our stories for future generations,” Pocan said.

Your insurance premium likely just doubled, and you spent $100 on five items at the grocery store. But the real issue at hand is preserving stories of gay people for future generations. Makes sense.

“It is vital to remember our collective past – particularly when certain states, and even Members of Congress, seek to constrain and repeal existing rights by passing bills that harm LGBTQI+ youth and our community at large. Let’s tell these stories, the good and the bad, and honor the many contributions the LGBTQI+ community has made to this nation with a museum in Washington, D.C. I look forward to the passage of this legislation and to visiting this museum in the near future.”

What exactly are those contributions that the LGBT community has made to this country? I think I missed that one in history class.

The first bill, if passed, will create an eight-member commission of “individuals with various expertise in museum planning or LGBTQ+ research and culture” to study the potential creation of the museum.

The panel will address whether the proposed museum should be part of the Smithsonian Institution, the world’s largest museum and research complex. They would have 18 months under the bill to complete its study and submit a plan of action to Congress.

Congress may consider the second bill to formally create the museum once the commission completes its recommendations.

This does not really sound like a wise way of using our tax dollars if you ask me.

Pocan was joined by all openly LGBT Co-Chairs of the “Equality Caucus” in introducing this legislation. This includes Representatives Mark Takano (D-CA), Sharice Davids (D-KS), Robert Garcia (D-CA), Becca Balint (D-VT), Ritchie Torres (D-NY), Chris Pappas (D-NH), Angie Craig (D-MN), and Eric Sorensen (D-IL).

People can hardly afford to live, and these lawmakers want to waste money on a museum that celebrates one's sexual preference. The priorities of some individuals are astonishing.

But since a gay museum is probably the last thing on your mind, that is the most important thing for the “Equality Caucus.” It’s also unclear how this will create “equality” since I highly doubt the museum will have anything to do with heterosexual people.
