There is a quote: “Social media made you all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it.” Whether or not it is attributed to Mike Tyson or Abraham Lincoln, who knows? It's the Internet. But it's an accurate quote and one MMA fighter Mike Jackson learned the hard way when he met fellow fighter Jake Shields.
To set the stage, the 31-9-1 Shields has gotten political over the years. It started in 2017 when he saved a man's life from Antifa thugs in Berkley.
As is often the case when you disapprove of Antifa or have any opinion that is slightly to the right of a Democrat, leftist keyboard warriors call you a "nazi" and a "racist." One of those keyboard warriors was the 1-2-1 Jackson, who is most notable for having a win against the 0-1-1 CM Punk overturned.
Shields, who doesn't appreciate being called either word. suggested Jackson attempt saying those things to his face. The two finally met at the UFC Performance Institute. Jackson is the guy with his back on the ground screaming "get him off of me."
Shields tells MMA Junkie that when he saw Jackson at the PI he reminded him, ‘You said you would fight me when you saw me, that I was too scared of you in my white fragility."
"I got out of the cage, went over, slapped him, picked him up, threw him on the ground, slapped him a few times. I didn’t punch him because, you know, you punch men. You slap b*tches."
Rumor has it Jackson intends to press charges after the melee. Jake Shields still made his point.
