Democrat Nominee Distributes Her 'Republican' Yard Signs

9/17/2016

Comments

It's like the teenage boy who got caught in the girl's locker room... then justified it by saying
he thinks he can identify as a girl because... "there are girls in there who like me."

Picture
The Muskogee Politico reports that the Democrat nominee running in the very Republican senate district of south Broken Arrow, is passing out yard signs identifying her with the word 'Republican'.
Kimberly Hobbs recently ran in the Democrat primary and received about 1/3 of the votes that incumbent Nathan Dahm garnered in his Republican primary.
What added to the intrigue of the story is in the reader comments of the blog post. Hobbs offered her own justification for cloaking her Democrat party endorsement.

Here's the rationale Kimberly Hobbs posted...

Editorial: Mostly 'Yes' To State Questions

9/16/2016

Comments

Picture
This November, Oklahoma voters will see a set of questions on the ballots. These are your opportunity to not only create or change Oklahoma laws, but also to do so with the power of mandating that the Oklahoma Supreme Court use our collective decisions as a precedent in deciding future constitutional matters which come before them.
Not every state has this power reserved to the people. Oklahoma does. It's one of the features of our constitution which should never go away.
So far, there are six matters to be decided in this general election.  Five of them are very good for us to ratify. There is one (SQ 779) which is very suppressive and should be rejected as a constitutional mandate. It would make Oklahoma's repressive sales tax an even greater burden on all of us, especially those of very limited economic means.

The OCPA has published an excellent primer on the state Questions.  I'm posting an excerpt for review. Please study the matters in depth at the OCPA website.

Banned Symbols You Thought You Knew

9/16/2016

Comments

A common contemporary form of irrational emotionalism is the effort to ban symbols merely because an offended person or group makes an unfavorable association with some negative attribute.  The intolerance of our popular culture is reaching fever pitch and many historic archives are being destroyed forever, because of the hyper emotionalism of our present day populism.

Fasces

is a bound bundle of wooden rods, sometimes including an axe with its blade emerging. The fasces had its origin in the Etruscan civilization, and was passed on to ancient Rome, where it symbolized a magistrate's power and jurisdiction. The image has survived in the modern world as a representation of magisterial or collective power. The fasces frequently occurs as a charge in heraldry, it is present on an older design of the Mercury dime and behind the podium in the United States House of Representatives, it is used as the symbol of a number of Italian syndicalist groups, including the Unione Sindacale Italiana, and it was the origin of the name of the National Fascist Party in Italy

Jason Murphey: Why Politicians Lie To Themselves

9/13/2016

Comments

by David van Risseghem -
Rep. Jason Murphey just penned another blogging masterpiece. He gives us an internal insight to how a politician begins lying to himself and then to us.

The big lie and the invisible wall

Several years ago, a legislator approached my seat in the House chamber. I welcomed his visit. He was a strong ally in the effort to clean up state government and I had worked with him on a number of modernization initiatives. He knew and understood the importance of our work.  But, his visit wasn't good news.

"I can't support your bill," he said.  He was referencing an important proposal pending in our Government Modernization Committee later that day. The bill was part of a multi-step effort to end a process of "legalized corruption" which wastes millions of dollars of taxpayer funds.

The Women Who Persuade Trump

9/12/2016

Comments

by David Van Risseghem:
Many have published gratuitous psychiatric assessments of Donald Trump. Most of them are derogatory and demeaning to the profession which many of these "professionals" claim to represent.
But each of us voters make up our own minds, and we don't believe we need a bunch of initials after our names, in order to make certain assumptions.

Does Donald Trump have a big ego?
Of course! But so do all politicians. They wouldn't run for office if they didn't believe they possessed the skills to manage a government better than the folks currently in office.

Does Donald Trump have a macho and masculine aggressiveness about him?
Yep! He has competed in the New York business community. He has no doubt faced down intimidation, threats, extortion, and other strong-arm tactics. He has responded to threats with his own "counter punches".
Picture

  Is Trump politically correct?
Never. Poll after poll has shown that voters are responding to his straight talk and find it refreshing.

Steven Moore: "49ers & 29ers Are Preventing Growth"

9/12/2016

Comments

by David Van Risseghem- Sept 12, 2016:
During a recent conference in Chicago, I had the opportunity to join a dinner gathering with Steven Moore. Mr. Moore is a Senior Contributor to Freedomworks. He is also an economic contributor to  Fox News, as well as an economic adviser to the Trump campaign.
Moore decried the sabotage sustained by the US economy via the Obama regulatory strangle hold. Moore referred to the 49ers and 29ers.

49ers

The Affordable Care Act(ObamaCare) contains some devastating mandates upon commerce, to pay much of the cost of healthcare in the nation. Any corporation or individual who provides full time employment to 50 or more individuals must provide for their healthcare major insurance coverage. Not merely their actual medical costs; but actually buying an insurance policy from an approved list of favored underwriters.

A Tribute To How Phyllis Schlafly Changed Oklahoma

9/5/2016

Comments

This last Spring, a graduate student a the University of Oklahoma; wrote a thesis on how the Equal Rights Amendment went down to defeat in Oklahoma, despite what looked like easy passage in 1973. Without a doubt, Phyllis Schlafly is seen by the feminists as the most powerful force shaping Oklahoma's political landscape for decades to come. We've posted excepts of Chelsea Ball's excellent research & publication.

FROM RED DIRT TO RED STATE:
OKLAHOMA AND THE EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT, 1972-1982

The men and women that supported the ERA enjoyed a comfortable majority over conservatives against it during the first few years, but in 1975 this changed. New Right leader Phyllis Schlafly injected herself into the debates and brought strength to the anti-ERA movement. In Oklahoma, the passage of the amendment depended on whether Oklahoma viewed the amendment as simple legal equality or a tool of radical feminism. Schlafly used the media to portray the ERA as a “women’s libber” East Coast issue connected to anti-Christian and anti-family values.
Picture
Phyllis Schlafly didn't just win a milestone victory in Oklahoma, She built an army of graceful ladies who fearlessly engaged in the political discourse for decades to come.

Gary Jones Eyeing Treasurer Post & Doerflinger's Job

9/4/2016

Comments

State Auditor & Inspector, Gary Jones (R-Cache) spoke to the Edmond Kiwanis Club about his plan to stay engaged in Oklahoma government and managing the finances of the state. The Edmond Sun filed an informative report.
Picture
Jones said his future will include a bid to run for state treasurer. He would ask the governor, whoever that may be, to appoint him as head of OMES.

“You see they now have all this money in performance review teams that is my expertise,” he said.
State Auditor and Inspector Gary Jones said his office at the state Capitol will not budge from the building. He said a group of bureaucrats have decided that a constitutionally elected officer will be evicted from the Capitol.

On Monday Jones was informed by Capitol Projects Manager Trait Thompson and Finance Secretary Preston Doerflinger that the office will relocate to another facility. Jones was told the move is due to reconfiguration work meant to meet the need for more space at the state Capitol during its renovation process, Jones said Wednesday before the Edmond Kiwanis.

“A little kink in their plans is that Article 6 of the Constitution says that these certain constitutional offices will be housed at the seat of government,” Jones said. “And there’s an Attorney General’s opinion that says the seat of government is the state Capitol.”

Club President Al Warren said he knows Jones as a tell-it-like it is guy who has put the spotlight on several members of our state government. His office is the elected watchdog for the citizens of Oklahoma. It will take a Supreme Court ruling and eviction notice to move the elected Office of State Auditor and Inspector, he said.

Rep Jason Murphey Opposes Extravagant Capitol Makeover

9/4/2016

Taj Mahal: The Edmond Sun reports Representative Jason Murphey (R-Guthrie) says that Capitol Remodeling has gone too far.
Picture
State Rep. Jason Murphey, R-Guthrie, told The Edmond Sun the powers that be have embarked on an effort to turn the state Capitol building into a Taj Mahal.

“There have been some very bad decisions related to the amount of expense being put into that building,” Murphey said. “And I think that’s the primary reason why he (State Auditor & Inspector, Gary Jones R-Cache) is being forced out.

“In the view of those who want to have a magnificent building, Gary Jones doesn’t have a place, nor does his office.” However, Murphey said he does not have evidence that Jones is the object of retaliation or that he is a political target.

“I think he is just in the way of those who want to have a first class facility and spend a lot of money doing it.”

Murphey said he believes the auditor should be in the building as well as the (Supreme)court and attorney general.

(adopted from the 2016 OKGOP State Convention)

Values:
  • We believe in limited government,
  • individual liberty,

  2. Quake Pressure For Corporation Commission

9/4/2016

Comments

Within hours of the early Saturday 5.6 quake, the Oklahoma agency tasked with monitoring petroleum practices, has declared a mandated shutdown of all injection wells in a 725 square mile zone.
The Oklahoma Corporation Commission is a 3-person agency who are elected statewide to 6 year terms. Until a year ago, this kind of action never happened, in Oklahoma.
This is a significant industry suppression and real evidence is still hard to come by. With Oklahoma government suffering from a drop in petroleum prices, it's hard to sell a strict and heavy-handed measure unless you can explain a clear and convincing connection between industry practices and geological violence.
Picture
With 14 significant tremors in the neighborhood, in just 24 hours, there ought to be enough documentation to give some indication of how much injecting is impacting the geological stability of the state.

Oklahoma's Known Quake Faultlines

9/3/2016

Comments

The Oklahoma Geological Service has posted some recent updates to fault lines and their relative stress levels.
It's important to note that while the seismic activity has 'exploded' over the past 10 years, there seems to still be a lack of hard science to determine the cause.
For the most part, petroleum fracking is ruled out as a cause. Wastewater injection is sill being suspected as a potential 'lubricant' of stressed fault lines.
In the past year or so, the Oklahoma Corporation Commission has stepped up their oversight of the problem and seeks to relieve the public safety threats while retaining an important economic life blood' to Oklahoma.

The biggest stresses to Oklahoma fault lines are illustrated above.

Oil Well At The Epicenter of Pawnee Quake

9/3/2016

8am Saturday:
As anyone in Oklahoma will tell you, we woke up to a massive quake at 7:02am Saturday. Quakes had calmed down somewhat, in recent months. Several folks believe that Injection wells form the oil production industry are tied to the upsurge of quakes along fault lines.
So, when the USGS finally posted up the  quake details (about 15 minutes later), I checked on the preliminary info on the epicenter (rural Pawnee, OK).
Google Earth desktop software put a pushpin at that precise location. Guess what also showed up in the screen view? Yep, an Oil production facility.
Google Maps had an even better image resolution. I pulled up their map of the area and you can clearly  see an active petroleum site.
Last year, the Oklahoma Corporation Commission finally stepped up their oversight of injection wells. The Guthrie, OK area was the first focus of govt. intervention and limits on how much waste water (from pumping up crude oil) can be re-injected back underground, to push residual crude oil over to areas where it can be more efficiently collected by another pump.
This is not fracking. This is an older technique which is generally safe, unless it's done near an unstable fault line.
We fully expect the Corporation Commission to move into action to find out what petroleum-related activity has been done in the Pawnee area, in recent weeks.

Spoiling the Legislature?

9/2/2016

Comments

PictureOklahoma thrived as a state for 90 years without a dome tower crushing the structure's foundation ... a fitting metaphor.
  •   Why does an Oklahoma legislator make more than 5 times the pay of a Texas legislator?
  • Why are Oklahoma taxpayers paying for an exclusive health club inside the capitol for each member?
These are just a few uncomfortable questions that no one seems to be asking. Certainly not our legislators, themselves.
The recent struggle of our State Auditor, who was just evicted from the capitol because bureaucrats think the building is no longer large enough to house our growing state government; is just another reminder that Oklahoma's conservative rhetoric is just campaign-speak.  Republicans like bigger offices and shiny new toys even more than Democrats. and they want someone else to pay for them.

Auditor Jones Forces Constitutional Edict To Stay In Capitol

9/1/2016

Comments

It seems our best & brightest minds in the legislature lost track of a nasty little regulation called the state constitution. Speaker Jeff Hickman had given political cover to some state administrators, who then promptly served State Auditor & Inspector, Gary Jones, with an eviction notice.
Jones says he was given 12 months to go find a new home for his constitutional oversight duties.  Preston Doerflinger, executive director of the Office of Management and Enterprise Services; was one of the couriers of the eviction notice.
But Doerflinger (appointed by Gov. Mary Fallin), has his own damage containment team working to shift blame to the 2 legislative leaders. While Senate President Pro Tem, Brian Bingman claims to have been left out of the loop, Speaker Jeff Hickman has an inconvenient paper trail which seems to have given a 'green light' to Doerflinger, to serve the eviction demand.
