Will Oklahoma Join Phase Two of Reaganomics?

1/31/2018

Comments

Obama's stagnated economy seems to be far back in our rearview mirror; unless you live in Oklahoma.
Oklahoma's governor, legislature, & crony capitalists are all prescribing a toxic poison as the fix for insuring prosperity.
Almost all of the massive new taxes that the governor is seeking to impose are designed to oppress the consumer, rather than close the corporate tax credits, exemptions, and other forms of corporate welfare.
But a better solution would start with reducing the volumes of outdated regulations on small business. Most Oklahomans have no idea how many archaic regulations are still lurking in our statutes and regulatory policies. that is, until an eager and industrious citizen tries to start a small business and gets threatening orders from any of the several hundred boards and agencies who are ready to quash the initiative right out of the fella.
Trump's first year is already more successful than Reagan's first two years were. But then Reagan didn't have the kind of example that he left as a legacy for Trump's mentoring. But Trump is an eager student and he quickly dropped the massive regulations that Obama imposed.

Oklahoma Tops The List of 'Most Polite States'

What many Oklahomans may take for granted, is not as common as what you may have assumed... Namely; that customers like you will be valued by the small businesses you patronize.
The accounting firm, FreshBooks, has studied their own clients' politeness toward customers, as reflected in the invoicing forms they use.
Surprisingly, the invoices said a lot about the proprietor's mindset. Some states expressed an attitude of; 'Where the hell is our money!'. But others openly gushed appreciative affirmations of; 'We are so honored to have been selected, to meet a need in your life.'
Oklahoma has nearly twice the score of the next most polite state (Alabama). Then came Ohio and (surprisingly) two New England states.
Shockingly, Mississippi was the 3rd worst state. Only Utah & Tennessee were worse. None of those three would have been this journalist's guesses. I would have guessed New York & New Jersey (which did fall into the bottom 10)

Sunday Sermon: Abort Abortion

1/28/2018

Comments

Former State Senator & OKGOP Chairman, Randy Brogdon, shares his call to end abortion in Oklahoma.  His message is to the church, her leaders, and all disciples of the Christian faith.

I started a Facebook conversation by asking, if what you believed to be true was actually false, would you want to know the truth? Then I ended by asking what was more important, legislative intervention to fix political corruption or stop the murder of unborn babies.
The answers were as varied as I suspected they would be. But the Truth spoken by God Himself leaves no doubt about the correct answer. It’s B. Stop the murder!
Right now, I’m only speaking to God-fearing Christians who truly want to know the truth and honor God by living their life holy and acceptable to Him. If that’s you, then please prayerfully consider the following truths I’m about to share.
  • Proverbs 24:11 Rescue those being led away to death...(abortion)
  • Matthew 22:37 Love God with all your heart...love your neighbor as yourself (the unborn are our neighbors)
  • Matthew 23:23 Woe to you hypocrites, teachers of the law who ignore the most important matters of justice, mercy, and faithfulness (pastors, Christian and Pro-life leaders and policy makers)
  • James 4:17 Anyone who knows right and doesn’t do it, sins

Republicans Call On Legislature To Honor The Voters' Role In Revenue-Raising Decisions

1/27/2018

Comments

In a sharply worded chastisement of the legislature, the Tulsa Area Republican Assembly(TARA) unanimously passed a resolution of criticism of the 2 legislative chambers. They called the recent behavior "insulting" and 'ignoring the intent of the Oklahoma Constitution.
TARA president, David Van Risseghem said; "The constitution works well, when the legislature partners with the voters."
The constitutional clause says that voters are to decide if any 'revenue raising' proposition becomes law. It was established when past legislatures repeatedly approved heavy tax increases while giving carve-out credits to corporate interests. Only in dire circumstances were lawmakers allowed to enact tax increases, but a 75% vote of support is then required. In the past 25 years, the legislature has strictly avoided letting voters decide on revenue (tax/fee) increases.
Other Republican groups are also affirming similar resolutions, or scheduling votes at County Committee Meetings.
Journalist, Jamison Faught reports that the Muskogee County Republicans passed an identical statement this week. Okmulgee, Okfuskee, Cherokee & Wagoner County GOP Committees are holding meetings in the next several days.

Steve Byas, publisher of the Oklahoma Constitution, said after meeting with a county Republican Committee; "The voters are angry! They feel the Republican legislature has not kept faith with the party.

Editorial: It's Time To Shut Down The FBI

1/23/2018

Comments

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is corrupted by the Obama Administration. The cancer spread from the very top and penetrated downward over the 8 years that Obama's minions controlled the bureau. It showed up at the very beginning when Eric Holder dropped all charges against the New Black Panthers who stood in front of election polling locations in Philadelphia; brandishing clubs.
  •   They were caught running guns illegally in Mexico, and were accomplices in the deaths of multitudes, including federal border guards.
  •    They looked the other way when the IRS harassed and audited many political opponents and withheld the tax-exempt status of any community organization which had a conservative activist in leadership.
  •    They actively suppressed investigations into Hillary Clinton's effort to give Russian operatives the exclusive rights to American Uranium deposits (which may have ended up in North Korean hands).
  •   They shielded Hillary Clinton from indictments for massive illegal distribution of top secret govt. intelligence.
  •   Now they are caught actively planting evidence to smear the Trump Administration.
The American people must be given a new federal law enforcement entity. This agency cannot be redeemed. A Special Council must immediately be named and the entire agency must be sealed and locked down.

Picture
First of all, I won’t fully believe that he really said it until I hear a recording.
Supposing he did use the word, a few points:
  • Yeah, sure, maybe a better phrase could be found.  But how many of the liberal elites pouring their crocodile tears out in the news cycle really like going to Haiti?
  • Are all the young millennials virtue signalling on social media planning a Hatian Honeymoon?
  • Being that this is in the context of immigration, if Haiti is so great, why do so many people want to leave?
  • Much is made of the contributions Haitian immigrants have made to American society (which is certain) but could they have made those same contributions in their home country?  Likely not.
This isn’t really an article, it’s more of an assembly of rhetorical questions, but one thing is absolutely certain: Trump’s expanding base of support doesn’t care that he made the remarks, or would be inclined to agree.

Will this be the end of DRUMPF?  Nope!

OCPA: State Govt. Spending Outpaces Inflation & Population Growth

1/23/2018

Comments

The Oklahoma Council on Public Affairs has released a study of Oklahoma state spending since 1991 (a year before SQ640 was put to a vote, to limit tax increases).
The conclusions are clear that neither population growth nor inflation could account for the 70% increase in state spending.

Read the full report at OCPAthink.org
In one generation, total state spending in Oklahoma has increased by $7.2 billion even when adjusted for inflation. This 70% increase shows the size and scope of government growing at an unsustainable rate. Over the same period, Oklahoma’s population grew by just 24%...

EDITORIAL: The Fallin Tax Crusade Begins 4th Assault

1/20/2018

Comments

State Treasurer, Ken Miller, seems to know things that Gov. Fallin doesn't. Perhaps her cognitive dissonance is willful and anchored in ulterior motives?
Whatever the motivation, Gov. Mary Fallin is trying for a 4th time in less than a year, to raise over a billion dollars in permanent recurring taxes on the Oklahoma people.
Fallin has failed to grow the economy in most of her 8 years in office. Few companies have migrated here and the largest area of growth in the state has been the government, itself.
Ken Miller is reporting that tax collections are coming in at a double-digit increase, compared to a year ago. This current rate is sufficient to perhaps wipe out the remaining budget shortfall of the current fiscal year, and even surpass the projections of next fiscal year (beginning this July).
When the national economic boom is factored in, there is  little downside to leaving the tax base alone. There is a big downside to raising taxes. Companies worldwide are taking a second look at the USA as a base of operations. the Trump administration has been successful in keeping US corporations from emigrating to foreign soil. Apple is set to bring back hundreds of billions to the USA. A tax hike at this time might signal to corporate America that Oklahoma is increasingly repressive soil.

The Schumer Shutdown

1/19/2018

Comments

The latest chapter in Washington brinksmanship is upon us. Senator Charles Schumer is refusing to support a temporary funding bill, and the Democrats have walked away from the very DACA talks that they sabotaged last week.
Unless the temporary funding is passed within hours, the federal govt. will be shut down.
in a last-ditch effort, President Trump set up a private meeting with Schumer and they spent a long time on the impasse, but Schumer still walked away without a joint statement of agreement.

Guest Editorial: Pat Campbell Rips Legislature For Tax Ploy

1/17/2018

Comments

Tulsa Talk Radio host, Pat Campbell, threw down the gauntlet Tuesday morning when he blasted the legislative leadership for a misguided lust for bigger government bloat, rather than reform the agencies which have not been subjected to proper oversight and a real trimming of the fat.
Expect Pat to be one conservative voice who will make this issue a litmus test for his listeners to determine who is looking out for the taxpayers.
Campbell started out his commentary with a strong condemnation of Tulsa's daily newspaper, which he describes as the mouthpiece of the Tulsa Metro Chamber of Commerce. The 12 minute segment is posted on the KFAQ website.
It has been years since the legislature has even presented a tax increase decision to the voters.  In 1992, the voters enacted a constitutional amendment to insert State question 640 as part of the Oklahoma Constitution.
Picture
It requires any revenue-increasing act to be approved by a majority vote of the people. But it allows for this requirement to be bypassed only if the legislature passes a measure by more than 75% of both chambers and a governor's signature.

Tulsa Republicans Hold Symposium On Medical Marijuana

1/17/2018

Comments

The Tulsa Republican Assembly held a town hall tonight, to hear from community members who have been or will be impacted by marijuana policy.

Navy Veteran, Cody Barlow shared his struggle with PTSD and the current treatment he's getting from the Veterans Hospital.  He was a recent participant in a medical trial in Colorado, using Cannabis products.
He hopes that a change in state policy will allow him to utilize the mew medicine so he can return to work.

Kim Goodman shared her son's tragic story of experimenting with Cannabis edibles. He consumed 5 times the dose recommended, and went into a psychotic state of paranoia and killed himself.

Michael Jackson, also a military veteran being treated for PTSD, discussed his participation in the initiative petition drive and Frank Grove discussed the language of the proposal and why the measure is constructed in this manner. Grove was a part of the team which constructed the proposal.
We hope you'll find the video helpful in study of the issue.

To that end, Pat Campbell of KFAQ Radio has had conversations with all of them. We're posting the podcasts from 6 recent conversations, in the effort to informing the voters.

Filing day is in mid April and then we'll know for sure who followed through to get their name printed on the ballot.

Fisher Calls On Oklahoma To End Dependence On Federal Subsidies

1/15/2018

Comments

The Dan Fisher For Governor campaign released a video on the subject of state dependence on federal funding.
He advocates a willingness to forego the funding if & when the federal govt. ties the money to regulations which Oklahomans reject.
This is similar to the decisions of the California Assembly which recently defied federal authority by stating that they will openly provide 'sanctuary' to illegal aliens.
The federal agencies have not yet responded to that defiance.  The federal govt. lacks constitutional authority to impose many regulations, but has a long history of using subsidies to the states, to accomplish their desired outcomes.
This video was posted at Dan Fisher's Facebook Page.

3 Candidates Emerge In Oklahoma Governor Race

1/15/2018

Comments

SoonerPoll just released the latest numbers in their polling of candidates in the 2018 elections. The numbers come from data collected earlier this month.
Oklahoma City Mayor, Mick Cornett, has topped the charts at 23.9%. He has spent a massive media budget on TV ads. No one else has poured significant money into the race. Tulsa metro voters were a big target in this ad buy. Cornett leads in Oklahoma City polling. Cornett is a former broadcaster & news anchor.
Lieutenant Governor, Todd Lamb, came in second and dropped to 17.6%, after leading a similar poll last fall with nearly 30%. Lamb has the most consistent support across the state. Lamb has been in government service most of his life.  Prior to his current office, he was a state senator from Edmond, OK.
Former Federal Prosecutor, Gary Richardson, has 9% support. Much of that comes from Eastern Oklahoma including Tulsa metro, where he leads in the polls. Richardson championed the effort to strike down tax increases in the State Supreme Court last summer. Richardson's more populist message includes ending the state turnpike system. He is much older than the rest of the field. He will be celebrating his 77th birthday in a couple weeks.

South Dakota's Bid To Overturn Supreme Court Ruling Is A Pro Life Blueprint

1/14/2018

Comments

Picture
One of the hallmark issues of the Dan Fisher Campaign is a commitment to end selective abortion in Oklahoma.  The objective is often expressed in tandem with the campaign's commitment to restore constitutional state sovereignty, as expressed in the 10th Amendment of the US Constitution.
This is not as unusual as one might think. Currently, California is defying federal policies on immigration and marijuana policies & statutes.
South Dakota is also challenging a 1992 SCOTUS ruling on sales tax collections from out-of-state sellers doing business with South Dakota residents.
South Dakota's legislature passed a statutory bill and their governor signed it. Now the state has filed suit with SCOTUS to seek a reconsideration of  the 1992 Quill vs North Dakota decision which forbids a state from collecting taxes on transactions not occurring within the state.
Quill is not a perfect analogy, but it shows us enough of what a state might do to assert dominion.
