Neese & Ballard Join Race For Congress

4/27/2019

Comments

There are now 3 Republicans officially in the race for congress, in central Oklahoma's 5th district. The seat is now held by Oklahoma's lone democrat in the DC delegation, Kendra Horn.
Picture
  •   Terry Neese published her announcement on Thursday. As a long-time activist & businesswoman, Neese has many allies and admirers. County Commissioner and former lawmaker, Kevin Calvey being just one of them.
  •   Michael Ballard is a retired former career military veteran from the shawnee area. His campaign officially launched months ago, but is now ramping up the publicity front. He's a passionate supporter of efforts to protect the unborn and defend national security, including our borders.
"I have spent my entire career fighting for more opportunities for men, women, and families to help them secure brighter futures, and that is exactly what I will continue to do as your Representative in Congress. "

- Terry Neese

"I am a real Pro Life Candidate not a fake one. Which makes me an abolitionist. We would never put to death the most violent vicious killers the way the left kills the defenceless."

Legislature Rocked By Sexual Allegations

4/26/2019

Comments

Late Thursday night a political newsletter issued a special edition, detailing the claims of a female who says she was subjected to sexual, emotional, and physical abuse from two legislators who are currently holding leadership positions in the House of Representatives.
The article says she requested that her identity be protected, but the details of her ordeal are rather explicit.  The Sooner Tea Party released snippets of the transcript they journaled from an interview with the victim. The article refers to her as a married younger woman who was at a 2017 event with several lawmakers. Rep. Chris Kannady is a veteran lawmaker who later became the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. Kevin McDugle would have been a freshman lawmaker at that time, and is now the chairman of the House Wildlife Committee.
McDugle was involved in an extramarital affair at the time and divorce court testimony includes his admission of a sexual addiction. The article says that McDugle was showing the much younger woman some graphic video content of explicit pornographic acts.  The article says that Rep. Kannady was busy feeling her leg while the video was playing.

Senator Bice Announces Candidacy For Congress

4/24/2019

Comments

The Associated Press reports that OKC State Senator, Stephanie Bice will be filing for the 5th District Congressional office, next spring.
The office is held currently by Kendra Horn, the lone Democrat in  Oklahoma's DC delegation.
Republican Oklahoma state Sen. Stephanie Bice says she will run for the U.S. House against Democratic Rep. Kendra Horn in 2020.
Bice said in a prepared statement Wednesday that Democrats who won the House majority in November have "embraced socialist policies and big government solutions" that she said threatens economic growth in Oklahoma.
While not mentioning Horn by name, Bice said the state can't have a representative answering to Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi "and a far left socialist agenda."
The Bice for Congress campaign website adds the following..
She received the Oklahoma State Chamber of Commerce Rising Star award and was selected a member of the Governing Institute Women in Government Leadership Class of 2016.
A pro-life conservative, Stephanie has been endorsed by Oklahoma Right to Life and has maintained an A-rating from the National Rifle Association.
Bice has degrees from Oklahoma State University in Marketing & International Business.

Bice is a fourth generation Oklahoman and a graduate of Putnam City High School in Oklahoma City. She and her husband Geoffrey have two daughters. They are members of St. Eugene Catholic Church in Oklahoma City.

SoonerPolitics In-Depth: How Professional Campaign Consultants Changed The OKGOP

4/23/2019

Comments

The Oklahoma GOP has enjoyed a 'fairy tale' turnabout of fortunes in the past 30 years. Until recent history, the Oklahoma Democrat party enjoyed nearly 9 decades of dominance in every statewide office and super-majorities in both legislative chambers.
No one saw a lucrative career opportunity in conservative political consulting, because there was no money in it, nor opportunity for career resume-building. Tom Cole changed that narrative in 1994, when his consulting firm of Cole, Hargrave, & Snodgrass; orchestrated a major political earthquake.
Since then, most well-financed Republican campaigns in Oklahoma have been working with campaign consulting firms.
SoonerPolitics decided to sit down for a visit with one of the more recent additions to the consulting world. Josh Wagoner is a founding partner with Tomahawk Strategies. He's an Oral Roberts University alum.
In our 9-part series, we look at the evolving science of politics and how a campaign consulting firm guides the candidate through the process. This is a special feature of SoonerPolitics.org, designed to help the citizen activist better understand the whole process of electoral politics.

The Oklahoma Autobahn: Tolerating High Speed Transit

4/18/2019

Comments

Picture
Picture
Gov. Kevin Stitt just signed into law a measure which would grant the dept of public safety more latitude in setting speed limits on Oklahoma's safest rural highways and turnpikes.
The transition has no set timetable and there likely will not be a big celebration by the Transportation dept or highway patrol. But the evidence none-the-less backs up this decision. Automobile suspensions are far superior to what they were in the 1970s. Roads, especially those designed to interstate class, are far safer than the ones our grandparents drove on.
This change will likely add more importance to our "Keep Right" laws. Just 2 years ago, the legislature created a law which tickets motorists who are found in the left lane while not passing or exiting left.

OKGOP's New Chairman Details Party Goals For 2020

4/17/2019

Comments

Congresswoman Kendra Horn Will get a lot of unwanted attention in the next 18 months. That's just one part of Chairman David McLain's detailed plan to expose the hard-left agenda of the Democrat Party, in Oklahoma.
On Tuesday night the Tulsa Area Republican Assembly held  a gathering in South Tulsa. Chairman David McLain spent about 30 minutes detailing his objectives and answering questions from the audience, which included leaders from multiple counties in northeast Oklahoma.
Party unity was a recurring theme of the speech. McLain is determined to resolve intraparty disharmony which reached a peak in the past few years. Divisive entities will find less interest, if McLain has his way. That doesn't mean that McLain will deter primary challenges or "put his thumb on the scale" during primary campaigns. But he emphasized the need to focus on the commonality that the party membership largely possesses. He doesn't want the few disagreements to result in a leftist winning general elections and helping enact policies which he sees as harmful to Oklahoma.
Picture

On April 6th McLain was elected on the ballot, garnering 70% of the delegate votes in a field of 3 candidates. Mike Turner was elected to the office of state vice chairman.
The two serve a 2-year term.
Here's the video of McLain's speech to the Tulsa Area Republican Assembly meeting.

Oklahoma Ranks 'Top 5' In Several Tax & Commerce Policies

4/15/2019

Comments

Jonathan Williams recently published a detailed report on several fiscal comparisons of the 50 states, pertaining to tax policy & business-friendly environments.  Oklahoma ranked in the top 3 when it comes to property taxes. Texas, by comparison, scored miserably on the same criteria.
But in other parts of the charts, Texas devastated Oklahoma's legacy by not imposing an income tax on citizens.  All in all, Texas ranked 2nd in the nation for 'Economic Performance'. Oklahoma came in 20th.
This is part of the picture which might explain why Oklahoma's population trend is shrinking, compared to the national picture. Texas is growing robustly, despite their property tax oppressions.

The Bad News..

Of the several economic comparisons, Oklahoma scores an aggregate 20th. Texas ranks 2nd. For this and other reasons, Oklahomans are still leaving the state at levels comparable to California.

Reader Poll: 90% Say; 'Stop Arresting Marijuana Possession'

4/12/2019

Comments

Updated 4/13 - tabulations audited
SoonerPolitics recently asked our readers to to give input to a poll about marijuana possession. 67% agreed with the move to make it a citation fine, rather than an arrestable misdemeanor. 10% disagreed with the change and want all unlawful possession subjectable to arrest, 1 year in jail, and $1000 fine (maximums). 23% chose a 3rd option(other) and commented that a full repeal of the marijuana prohibition is the only action they can even applaud.
On Thursday the Senate Health & Human Services Committee passed HB2614 by a 12-0 bipartisan vote. Among other things, it changes Oklahoma statutes regarding possession of Marijuana without a valid license. It would no longer be a misdemeanor with a potential sentence of 1 year in jail and $1000 fine.

Justice Wyrick Leaves Oklahoma Supreme Court, Giving Stitt Two Vacancies To Fill

4/10/2019

Comments

On Monday, the US Senate confirmed President Trump's nomination to the Federal District Court for western Oklahoma. This now creates the 2nd vacancy on Oklahoma's high court. Justice Reif is also stepping down at the end of this month. All of these developments are enabling Gov. Stitt to leave more legacy on Oklahoma govt. than Gov. Fallin had in her full 8 years in the governor's mansion. Wyrick was Fallin's last Supreme Court appointment.
Patrick Wyrick had been Fallin's Solicitor and had previously worked under then AG Scott Pruitt. Democrat senators exploited that Pruitt connection to disparage Wyrick and oppose his appointment. He was also disparaged for his young age. The 38 year old has fast-tracked through the hierarchy of state judicial appointments. He's noted as one of the best communicators and thinkers on the current Oklahoma Supreme Court. His fellow justices have let him write most of the significant majority opinions during his short 2 years as a justice.

Tulsa Teachers Take Tax-Funded Trips To Vegas Strip & Napa Valley During Walkout

4/9/2019

Comments

Evidently, Sheila Riley of Tulsa's Nathan Hale High School, is offering her favorite teachers some really fun trips, and she's planning several more.
During last April's partial teacher walkout, Tulsa Public School Administrators authorized the principal to spend tens of thousands of dollars sending several faculty members to the Las Vegas Strip. They called it "Professional Development" and justified it as free federal money that would disappear if they don't put it to use.
Never once did they comprehend that it would be reallocated toward future funding and help make education more successful for America's school children. To them it was just free money that would dissolve if they didn't find a desirable destination.
But thankfully a retired school nurse with a conscience finally spoke up.
“I’ve never, in all my years I’ve worked for TPS, I’ve never seen anything like this,” said Elizabeth Vaughan.
Vaughan is a newly-retired school nurse. She worked at Nathan Hale High School during the last school year.
“This was a surprise exception, and I don’t think it was quite the right time at all,” said Vaughan.
The timing she’s talking about is April 10-14, the tail end of the teacher walkout.

The fundamental problem here, is that bureaucrats see federal funding as some rich uncle's free money that just has to be spent quickly.

How Dare They! Tulsa Public Schools Condemns Charter Schools

4/7/2019

Comments

The worst among us cannot muster the dignity to take correction for dismal failures. Instead they divert the discussion to how bad someone else is. We see this in little developing children, but we expect adults to act like adults.
We expect community 7 govt. leaders to even surpass the rest of us. But sadly the state's largest public schools pay their superintendents twice the salary of our governor; and then watch them act worse than some of the juveniles we trust to their care.
  What am I talking about?
For the past 2 months a whisper campaign has been conspired against the state's rising star of innovation in the delivery of public education. Many are attributing the source of the rumors to be Tulsa Public Schools. The claim is that some ambiguous 'investigation is being conducted by the federal govt.
Meanwhile Tulsa Public Schools knew that they were being investigated by our state dept. of Education. The result is that TPS is found to have repeatedly failed our most vulnerable students... Those with special needs. The shame ought to lead to resignations. But it seems TPS has a deficit in the fundamental ability to feel shame.

Various Reflections On The 2019 OKGOP Convention

4/6/2019

Comments

Liza Greve

Just got home from the OK GOP State Convention and had to get my comfy shirt on that we each received as a “participation trophy”. ?
We elected a new State Chair and Vice Chair! Congratulations David L. McLain and Mike Turner, and adopted a state party platform of solid conservative values and principles. Read it here: https://gallery.mailchimp.com/…/2019_OKGOP_Platform_Final_P…
Senator Julie Daniels did a fabulous job chairing the event. She kept order and articulated what we were voting on clearly.
Thanks to Rep. Lewis Moore for cracking me up half the time. #backrow#cutups
I was especially excited to have recruited some new delegates and hope to have more delegates to join us next time. So good to see a smoother process as the #basketofdeplorables worked well together to get stuff done! ?? ??? I might have even saw a few pigs fly as certain people agreed. ????

The New Oklahoma Republican Party Leadership

4/6/2019

Comments

Picture
The Oklahoma Republican Party reloaded with brand new leaders at the top of the organization.
The former chair of Tulsa County Republicans, David McLain, received overwhelming support on the first ballot in a field of 3 candidates.
The convention body of nearly 1000 delegates gave 70% support to McLain, followed by 22% for Oklahoma County former Chair, Daren Ward; and 8% for Darren Gantz of the Tulsa County Republican Mens Club.
Vice Chair Michael Turner is a former state legislator who also worked several states for the Trump 2016 campaign. He led the first round balloting, followed by Kyletta Ray, then John Roberts. In the final balloting, Turner enjoyed 53% support, to Ray's 47%.
They take office immediately and plan to be at the state party headquarters on Monday morning.

OKGOP Legal Counsel: "Pretend We're Not Breaking Our Rules"

4/5/2019

Comments

Late Friday afternoon the State Committee of the Oklahoma Republican Party was given options to deal with the major failure of the departing chairman, Pam Pollard.
AJ Ferate indicated that the cleanest option might be if the convention delegates pretend that deadlines were kept, then they don't have to vote to suspend their own bylaws, while they vote to erase bylaws.
I asked if the cleanest option wasn't to lay over the amendment proposals til next year's convention? He said that's also an option.
Pollard and Ferate spent several minutes making their appeal, but would not allow the State Committee members to debate on either side of the issue. A simple vote was taken and the Chair got her way.
Convention delegates will think that the State Committee was okay with allowing 12 amendments to the party rules to be put on the agenda and thus up for a vote.
The reality is that the delegates may be the only ones who will actually have open debate about a violation of our party bylaws.
If anyone thinks the parliamentarian is encouraging honesty or integrity, We certainly heard from State Committee members who are less convinced.

Political Vandal Suspect Caught By Norman Police

4/4/2019

Comments

Allison Christine Johnson, age 45, of Norman OK, was arrested by Norman police, on Thursday afternoon. She is the prime and only suspect in a string of vandalism incidents over the past week.
Voter databases list an Allison Christine Johnson, age 45, as a recent registrant of the Republican party, just over 2 years ago.
The address given was called up on Google Street view. the driveway of the residence shows a gold sedan which matches the description of the vehicle reported as part of the vandalism.
An Allison Christine Johnson's social media acct. was cloaked by the time we tried to gather more confirming data.
I spoke with long time Cleveland County Republican leaders, tonight. They don't claim to know anything about the suspect, but did say that a woman by that name is listed on their most recent voter lists.
The voter databases also list a Democrat, Lenore Johnson, age 67, at the same residence.
Court records searching of the first & last name resulted in a few results, including a 20 year old divorce judgment in Oklahoma County,  a few more recent civil suits, and one default judgment for forcible entry and detainer; in Cleveland County.
