OKGOP Faces 2nd FEC Audit In 5 Years

11/29/2021

Comments

A reliable source in the Oklahoma Republican Party tells Sooner Politics that the Federal Election Commission has officially notified the OKGOP that an audit of the state's largest political party is now commencing. Just 5 years ago, the FEC also conducted a similar audit and cost the OKGOP a 6-figure sum of money in fines, assessments, and associated expenses.
The previous audit focused on a time period of Chairmen Dave Weston (2013-2015) and Randy Brogdon (2015).
The current audit focuses on a time period of Chairmen Pam Pollard(2015-2019) and David McLain(2019-2021).
Sooner Politics is also investigating a federal sanction against the OKGOP relating to failure to report and submit employee tax withholding in recent years.
Other recent reports to Sooner Politics say that financial irregularities were discovered by the financial team of current Chairman John Bennett, in April & May of this year. relating to unaccounted-for bank withdrawals shortly after John Bennett took over for departing Chairman David McLain, on April 10th.

Gov. Stitt's Thanksgiving Weekend Exhortation

11/26/2021

Comments

Hey Oklahoma,
 Governor Kevin Stitt here.
Over two hundred years ago, in 1789, President George Washington declared November 26th as a day of Thanksgiving to recognize the role of Providence (or God's care), in creating the United States and our constitution. Today I believe we need God's care more than ever before. We live in a fallen world that continues to remind us of injustice and hurt.
Last week the eyes of the nation were on Oklahoma. We felt a shared sense of unease that was intense and at times confusing, even disheartening. And yet amid all this uncertainty something amazing happened. Our state prayed.
When we are faced with difficult decisions and have no answers, it drives us to our knees. That's what I did as your Governor. I prayed and I asked God for wisdom and discernment. I know I was not alone. I heard from Oklahomans across our state, who regardless of their faith, their background, their beliefs; they were also going to the Lord in prayer.

Legislating An End To Sin

11/25/2021

Comments

100 years ago, the disciples of governmental dominance were celebrating the enactment of the 18th Amendment. The 'devil's potions' were finally a constitutionally banned substance and the courts were powerless to subvert the will of the majority.
Prohibition, which became the law of the land in January 1920, was the product of enormous middle-class energy dedicated to eliminating sin—gambling, drinking, anarchy, sloth—through legislation. Within this crusade, beer was hardly a neutral substance.
As the favored drink of the German and Irish working class, it was shorthand in temperance circles for disorderly taverns, abandoned wives, laziness, unemployment—even, during World War I, anti-Americanism. According to temperance advocates, Prohibition's destruction of the saloon marked nothing less than a triumph of order over disorder, self-control over dissipation.

For the next decade, marijuana remained fully legal in most states, but beer was a federal crime.
It serves to remind us that the legal code is often no more than a fascist effort to mold culture into a particular ideal image of the day.
This article is a short excerpt from Beverly Gage's report in the Smithsonian magazine. Read her entire article, here.

" I'm very leery about ethnic jokes now in my position. So, the only ones I can tell are Irish. You know, my father told me when I was that high that the Irish built the jails in this country and then filled them."
- Ronald Reagan, March, 1988, at Pat Troy's Irish Pub.

The Fight Over Employee Vaccine Mandates

11/21/2021

Comments

Last week, dozens of lawmakers circulated discharge petitions for proposed laws to force the hand of private industry.
The specific issue is whether a hospital maternity ward and neonatal ICU staff will have all current vaccine protocols met in order to clock in for work.
Now, some medical corporations are seeking much broader mandates, but I selected the scenario of the newborn experience to illustrate that a new parent has a reasonable desire to see that their newly born child has the most safe environment when born.
Hospitals and clinics are weighing these decisions and they realize that there are going to be real problems if they move forward with employee mandates.
But I also want these 'frontline' workers to know that they have other effective options which don't involve legal precedence that they may one day regret.
The medical industry employers may face consequences regardless which policy decision they adopt.

Twelve Pandemic Observations

11/21/2021

Comments

We are now beginning the 3rd year of the Covid 19 era. Sadly, our confidence in government information has taken a hit.
While the pharma swamp continues their narrative of demonizing any observations that don't parrot their 'truth' of the moment; the people and especially the honest frontline practitioners are facing defamations, persecutions, and professional censure.
Those who have been taught to think for themselves, to rationally reason and courageously ask questions; are now being silenced on social media. Parents who seek to protect their own kids are being told that the govt. actually owns the kids.
'Front line' workers who were courageous enough to daily show up in clinics, hospitals, retail stores, and public institutions; are now being terminated from those jobs because they won't hand over health decisions to their employer.
I've put together a list of ten personal convictions about what are the latest coronavirus pandemic realities. Perhaps you have your own? Post a comment of what you'd add to the list. And feel free to contend with me about what you think I got wrong. I value all objective discussions.

The CDC led us to believe that the pandemic would be over by August of 2020. The US now has a death toll 3 times large than the projections of May, 2020.

Special Session: New Congressional Districts Drawn

11/15/2021

Comments

The Oklahoma Legislature convened today, for the planned special session to finally set the district boundaries for our 5 congressional seats.
The proposal before the House & Senate will give the Oklahoma City metro area to 3 congressional districts. While the 4th congressional district (held by Tom Cole) did claim a few square miles around the Tinker Air Base in Midwest City, now the 3rd Congressional District(held by Frank Lucas) is going to carry most of SW Oklahoma County. In exchange for that large population shift, Congressional District 5 (held by Stephanie Bice) is going to expand into Logan, Lincoln, and Canadian Counties.
This adjustment is very close to the proposal advocated by Sooner Politics, with the slight twist being that CD3 will now have a part of Oklahoma City, instead of CD4 taking more of the county and releasing more rural counties to CD3.

Oklahoma's five congressional districts may look like this map, by the end of the week. But they take effect in the 2022 elections.

"No politician 'checks off every box" in your list of issues. You have to prioritize and use personal discretion regarding every current and future issue that you can imagine. Then you have to also judge integrity & consistency. A candidate's openness to study the issues & courage to think for themselves. Then you need to review their honesty & work ethic.  I respect any voter's decision, when they've informed themselves and took voting seriously." - David Van Risseghem

Sooner Politics News is a platform, not a media site. All our bloggers get their feeds promoted regardless of content. As soon as We suppress or delete even one posting, we become an endorser of whatever We didn't censor..The publisher doesn't (and could not) logically agree with all the content, so we would not expect any rational reader to agree, either. What we do hope, is that readers will think for themselves, and at least be better informed of the issues, events, and values that our citizen journalists work hard to provide for free.. We automate much of the tasks so that our sources' content gets as much exposure as possible. We encourage constructive discussion & debate. The solution is more free speech, not less.
