| One of the more unusual characters in the 2018 governor's race is a Libertarian who calls himself 'Joe Exotic'. Joe took the last name of Maldonado when he completed his state marriage license to the 23 year old Travis Maldonado. Travis died tragically, in recent days. The incident is being investigated as an accidental death involving a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Travis insisted to others in his presence that the firearm would not fire with the magazine removed. He then made the tragic mistake of pointing the weapon to his head and squeezing the trigger. At a memorial service, Joe Maldonado spoke of his campaign for governor and gave no indication that the campaign would cease.
