Oklahoma Leaders Hold Mental Health Town Hall, Thursday Night In Tulsa

Oklahoma has a real challenge. Serious mental illness is overwhelming the resources.
The State Leaders, NAMI Tulsa and community groups invite the public to join us for a discussion on public mental health policy and resources. A bipartisan panel of lawmakers & advocates will discuss the most pressing needs, the constitutional role of the state, and innovative solutions.
  The invited panelists include:

• Cathy Costello - a noted leader and advocate for humane and safe care for the mentally ill. Her late husband, Labor Commissioner Mark Costello, was tragically killed by their psychotic son. She has steered multiple reforms through state and federal government.
• Senator Allison Ikley-Freeman - a Tulsa area senator and professional mental health therapist. She is the newest member of the Oklahoma Senate, and a member of key senate mental health committees.
• Rep. Regina Goodwin. A freshman legislator from Tulsa's north side. Her district citizens have suffered multiple tragic deaths of the mentally ill by many botched law enforcement initiatives gone wrong.
• Rep. Ross Ford - a freshman legislator and career law enforcement professional. His work as a Broken Arrow field officer provides him unique insights of the challenges presented to law enforcement. 

  

 The event will include an opportunity for individuals to ask questions of the panelists, and present concerns which call for state policy responses. The event will be held March 8th at 7pm, in the auditorium of Fellowship Congregational Church, 2900 S. Harvard Ave., in midtown, Tulsa.
