In a sobering moment of accountability, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tulsa & Eastern Oklahoma, published a report of "known & credible" allegations against members of the priesthood in their local organization. But the list contains mostly dead priests and a few who have been previously removed from active ministry several years ago.
Parishioners are doing their best to sort out the impact of yet another revelation that so many have suffered. More and more are asking why married believers are disqualified from ministry for the past 500 years, when such a shortage of celibate men are becoming seen with such suspicion. For the first 1200 years of Constantine's model of church government, Priests were commonly married men. The Apostle Peter was a married church leader. Bishop David Konderla said; "I am fully committed to doing everything within my power to protect our children. Today, the Diocese trains each priest, deacon, seminarian, diaconate candidate, lay employee, and volunteer to recognize the signs of sexual abuse and how to immediately report suspected abuse to local authorities. We seek to employ the best practices in child and youth protection and routinely submit to reviews by independent auditors to ensure complete compliance. " |
