Another election will soon be called by the governor. With Republican Senator Stephanie Bice prevailing over Democrat incumbent, Kendra Horn, she will be sworn in to the next US House of Representatives next January. That will trigger a vacancy of Senate district 22 in the Oklahoma legislature. She may in fact submit her resignation shortly after the state vote is certified, within days. The governor then is required to call for a special election process over the next 4 months or so. If this is done promptly, the people of the western edge of the OKC metro area will only lose minimal representation. Her successor could be sworn in soon enough to cast important votes on key reforms and budgets for the next fiscal year. The district includes most of 4 school districts, including Deer Creek, Yukon, Piedmont, and Okarche. Organizers are already discussing potential candidacies and lining up support. If one of the local state representatives should enter this race & prevail, it would cause yet another local legislative election in the spring & summer. Sooner Politics will be monitoring the community organizing and publishing news as it becomes public. |
