Bipartisan Group Defeats Largest Tax Increase In Century

  This afternoon, a group of Republicans and Democrats prevented the legislature from forcing a heavy new series of taxes on the people and businesses of Oklahoma. The measure will now have to be presented to the voters for their decision.
  About 25 years ago, the people of Oklahoma made that requirement necessary after the legislature of 1991 pressed through a heavy tax increase package known as "House Bill 1017".
 The taxpayers rights are secured because of the defense provided by these Representatives.

  The tax measure now goes to the people of Oklahoma, to decide if this is the manner in which to address the state's mismanagement and lack of funding.

  The voting was held open by the leadership for over an hour.  After about 7 minutes, Scott Inman stepped into the room and verbally notified the clerk of his attendance and his vote. He did not stick around.
​ Then persuasion happened outside the chamber, when the Republican leadership and their minions left the room with Martinez & Frix. About the time the group returned, Avery Frix became an additional 'No' vote. In the end, only Ryan Martinez & Avery Frix (freshmen from Edmond & Muskogee) were persuaded to switch to a 'Yea' vote.   Martinez flipped his vote , followed a minute or so later by Frix; and the roll was closed shortly thereafter.
