| Sooner Politics is officially endorsing the candidacy of Linda Murphy, an education hero. She has been one of the most trusted voices in Oklahoma when it comes to sensible public education leadership. She has the sense to know that Oklahoma parents want to, and need to be, partners with a local education provider. She has seen the silly fads and whims from Washington social engineers, East Coast Academic theories, and Silicon Valley new age nonsense. She will bring trusted and proven solutions for solid education outcomes, while celebrating the local character of the independent school district. After finding that many of my students who were labeled as L.D. - learning disabled and/or with ADHD - attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder had developmental delays in fine-motor skills causing learning problems, I worked in the field of Optometric vision-motor development. I was awarded for my work in helping children and adults by a vote of statewide leaders in the field of Optometry.
In 1994 I ran for State Superintendent against incumbent Democrat Sandy Garrett and garnered 49.5% of the votes statewide. This led to my opponent killing the controversial OBE -Outcomes Based Education plan and repealing it from Oklahoma state law. In 2013 and 2014 I spoke statewide to help lead the repeal of the Common Core State Standards from law. I served as an advisor to the Governor, Deputy Commissioner of Workforce Education and Training in the Department of Labor and on the State Job Training and Coordinating Council.
Views on Education
In my view, Oklahoma will achieve Excellence in Education by establishing true local control, academic standards and testing that aligns. I believe teachers must be free to teach with the methods and materials they determine best suited for each student. I oppose the use of the nationalized testing implemented by the current State Superintendent. It is unfair to students and to teachers to put in place a test that is not aligned with what is being taught.
I have proven, documented, and consistent opposition (for 25 years) to the use of government vouchers in education, which would put public education money into private schools. I've repeatedly stated that government money will require government regulations in the private schools. The transfer of public money out of public schools would create a financial hardship on many schools, whose funding is required by our State Constitution.

I urge Oklahomans to be cautious of false information, which is being circulated widely in social media about me. Supporters of my opponent say they find me “dangerous” to their cause...... Yes..... I am “dangerous” but only to the election of my opponent. Those who truly believe in working together for public education should become educated before forming an opinion!
