Guest Opinion: Hern's Bailout Vote Could Draw Him A Primary Challenge

3/27/2020

Comments

Young Tulsa businessman, Eric McCray, has penned his disappointment of Rep. Kevin Hern's vote for $Trillion in bailout payments, today.  McCray is so disappointed that he's contemplating a challenge to Hern in the upcoming primary, unless another challenger comes forward. Here's his letter to SoonerPolitics.

Disappointed in Representative Hern's vote today. He has been very communicative and great in other respects. Here's why.

Over a decade ago, I pooped in buckets inside my gutted house, and ran down to the gas station every morning and went without electricity and water for months until I got a gutted house plumbed, then lived in it gutted until it is the quaint home it is today. Parent's home was always open, but i had to FIGURE IT OUT. I know most of you are mostly all in favor of SITTING in the proverbial parent's house when you lose a paycheck for a week or two and want to be coddled with socialist bailouts. Welcome to my life for YEARS after being lied to by society that a college degree had starting pay of certain amounts, that it was worth going. It was not for me.
(Which is another area the government needs to get out of--student loans, let the market set the price of education and employers take the risk/make the investment. Not the government.) I digress.

Employers I had before school wouldn't hire after I graduated. I was always either overqualified or underqualified with both education/experience for the exact same position, would happen in the same day for the same position at 2 different companies. NEVER landed one of those jobs out of scores and scores, no hundreds of interviews and over 60 resumes that had to be perfectly crafted again and again I was told, after sitting in interviews sometimes stretched out 3 days long where they drained my brain of all my learning for FREE business consultations posed as interviews. Had to get a trade. Just spent a miserable miserable morning up in an attic--with 2 college degrees. This is not right. This stimulus is wrong. Besides the life lessons and anecdotal support for my position, here is some logical support:
Think this thing through, past your pain. What happens when there is another "emergency?" More debt? This crisis is our opportunity to adapt. You do realize the Iranian leaders have thanked us for our sanctions because it has taught them how to be self-sufficient. This was the American people's opportunity to experience a touch of hardship and ADAPT. Instead, we will be quicker to surrender precious freedom with the next crisis and increase the national debt that has a yearly service amount approaching the same exorbitant, inefficiently used amount we are also overspending on national defense. The toilet paper run had nothing to do with necessity and everything to do with comfort. Our economy and people are too soft for the hour we live in. There are thousands of jobs right now because of the crisis, and people are waiting for a check instead of working the internet, applying for a temp job that came open.
We need to realize we as a nation and society are over-leveraged. Life has taught me ANY leverage is over-leverage. Maybe not for you. But if you take that check, and if you can't make it a week or 2 without working, here might be your problem-- Too expensive of a car, too many cars, way too big of a house--too nice of a house, not telling yourself or your kids NO every now and then--your business being too big because of greed perhaps, or improperly structured. We would have prepared for the next emergency which inevitably will come. Now we will not change, but the Socialism frog pan will be another degree hotter, and the corrosion of our freedoms will continue. Wake up people. Never did I believe I would see the day when Republicans would clamor for a 2 Trillion dollar stimulus with checks from the government. Are you kidding me?
If the stimulus was so important, why didn't they just immediately take it from other federal funds instead approving new expenditures? Why not offset the amount by reducing other federal spending? Representative Kevin Hern has to OWN absolutely everything in that bill that he says out one side of his mouth he does not support, but out the other side he votes for. I submit the real crisis is the national debt, a government out of control. This is why Representatives are recalled every 2 years. The job is very tough, the kool-aid is real. He is sipping it.
Pray for me. I am now contemplating running for the seat--a race I probably embarassingly won't reach 8% in a primary, develop the humiliating reputation of the guy who runs for everything and loses every time, but will put my money and time and pride and peak season earnings which keep me going all year on the line to emphasize my point, that I believe it. This has to stop. Balance the Budget NOW. If anyone read this far, and supports the stimulus, please explain why. Convince me otherwise. If anyone else has the courage to primary Kevin Hern, let me know and I would like to discuss it with you.

"No politician 'checks off every box" in your list of issues. You have to prioritize and use personal discretion regarding every current and future issue that you can imagine. Then you have to also judge integrity & consistency. A candidate's openness to study the issues & courage to think for themselves. Then you need to review their honesty & work ethic.  I respect any voter's decision, when they've informed themselves and took voting seriously." - David Van Risseghem

Sooner Politics News is a platform, not a media site. All our bloggers get their feeds promoted regardless of content. As soon as We suppress or delete even one posting, we become an endorser of whatever We didn't censor..The publisher doesn't (and could not) logically agree with all the content, so we would not expect any rational reader to agree, either. What we do hope, is that readers will think for themselves, and at least be better informed of the issues, events, and values that our citizen journalists work hard to provide for free.. We automate much of the tasks so that our sources' content gets as much exposure as possible. We encourage constructive discussion & debate. The solution is more free speech, not less.
