Oklahoma House Speaker Charles McCall just announced today that he suspended Rep. Dan Kirby’s chairmanship of the House Business, Commerce & Tourism Committee. A more permanent decision will be made at the conclusion of the investigation and potential disciplinary action. So pending the findings and recommendations of the House Special Investigation Committee, we will know more. This came after Rep. Kirby publicly announced his intent to refuse to testify before the Committee. The move by Kirby was seen as another defiant refusal to help the investigation get a more complete picture of what happened in the past 2 legislatures. Chairmen are expected to work with the Speaker and the rest of the house leadership on several issues. It might seem probable that the posture of Kirby has become an impediment to the leadership team and it seems McCall felt a more stable and reliable person is a better option. |
