This weekend the Oklahoma Libertarian Party reorganized under a new set of bylaws and new leadership. Their two prominent candidates lent a hand in guiding the party organization past some of what they describe as 'first year missteps & successes'. Among the popular planks of the candidates is Dr. Tom Coburn's condemnation of the legislature and governor for growing the size & cost of government. Three Libertarian Candidates officially signed the Oklahoma Taxpayers Unite! pledge in front of the convention body. Chris Powell & Rex Lawhorn are squaring off in the first primary of Libertarian candidates for governor. Joe Maldonado did not attend the business sessions and faced a strongly worded condemnation in the afternoon resolutions for his campaign antics. Powell & Lawhorn have a very amicable race and seem comfortable in collaborating on shared objectives. The Libertarians' 'golden rule' is known as the "Non Aggression Principle"(NAP). Delegates were required to sign the pledge in order to be seated in the convention. It's a principle which has included a commitment to abstain from verbal as well as physical aggression. Maldonado was rebuked for his accusations of fellow candidates which included leveling charges of very serious felonies. Maldonado offers SoonerPolitics no evidence to back up such claims |
