Govt regulation can kill more than no regulation at all. There were 3,298 confirmed NY nursing home deaths from the coronavirus & another 2,646 deaths presumed to have been caused by COVID-19, for a total of 5,944, according to the official figures., as of Sunday, May 31st. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has faced widespread criticism for his handling of nursing homes amid the coronavirus crisis, including a controversial, March 25 directive from the state Department of Health that mandated they accept patients discharged from hospitals with the infection. Cuomo — who reversed the order a month later, has tried to pin the blame for the initial decision on guidance from President Trump’s administration. As an economic model, fascism is often misidentified and demagogued. When a govt's lust for more control is launched into an agenda for execution, they have two versions of tyranny to choose from. Corporate giants spend billions to encourage fascism because it allows them to remain wealthy and even build on that wealth by using govt regulations to kill off smaller & more efficient business competition. | A reporter asked Gov. Cuomo; "Who can be held responsible for the mass deaths caused by sending the deadly virus into nearly every NY nursing home?" "No one", was Cuomo's reply. |
Is Medicaid really fascism? Yes! Did it lead to thousands of NY nursing home deaths? Yes!
Economic fascism is all around us.
Today, some enterprising physicians are opening outpatient surgical centers because hospitals were making a huge haul of cash by overcharging for hospital surgical procedures. Hospitals escalated their market control strategies 30 years ago when they started buying out private practice clinics and turning those physicians into employees who will push patients toward the big hospitals where they have privileges to continue care.
The US has had a penchant for fascism ever since public utilities were granted geographic monopolies to provide electric, telephone, fuel, and other commodities. The states formed oversight agencies who guaranteed a profit to the utilities, but supposedly kept the 'evil corporations from both gouging customers & predatory plots to take business from each other.
Prior to the 1980s, air travel was also highly regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). A small minority of the population could afford to travel because the prices were prohibitive. The biggest Airways of the day, PanAm, said that as long is there is FAA regulation on air travel, PanAm will remain the king of the proverbial hill. But The Reagan reforms opened up & expanded competition. Within 10 years, the world's two largest airlines PanAm & TWA were in bankruptcy.
Ma Bell - A Case Study..
Sure enough, AT&T failed to compete and sold off their wireless holdings in the mid 90s. SWB Wireless rebranded as Cingular, then became a dominant national provider, but it was still part of the old 'baby Bell' (SWB). Eventually, it was Cingular which bought out AT&T Wireless. Yes, the baby bought out Ma Bell! SWB rebranded again, as AT&T. They are also a major ISP & Cable TV operation. But they do not have a guaranteed monopoly for most of their services, so prices remain more competitive.
Is Fascism Intolerant?
Hillary Clinton was put in charge of a national healthcare overhaul effort in the mid 1990s. Her model was more marxist than fascist. Physicians would become state employees under her design. the plan was politically disastrous and in the Nov. '94 elections, the Democrats lost their 52 years of Congressional control.
But with the failed GW Bush fascist plan to force more home ownership by coercing banks to approve more loans, the entire world economy was in major collapse. GW Bush bailed out the mortgage lenders, in his 'lame duck months; but the small businesses took the brunt of the economic hit and got no assistance at all. This lead to the massive Tea Party revolt of 2010. Obama enacted a fascist healthcare plan before losing the congress to Republicans. So health insurance companies are now the biggest recipients of fascist govt. funding, & all citizens are mandated to buy a hugely inflated healthcare premium. Obama lost at the Nov. '10 elections, just like Clinton did; but the plan was still law and started in 2014. It's an economic failure, but Obama said it's simply a transitory strategy to usher in the Marxist rollout, which Bernie Sanders & Elizabeth Warren now advocate for.
