Breitbart News executive chairman, Steve Bannon, stepped down from his key White House position to take on a more radical task... cleaning up the Republican Senate.
He picked a year when Republicans only have 8 held seats to hold. The Democrats and their 2 independent colleagues have 25 seats to defend. Bannon is determined to dethrone Mitch McConnell from the top office in the senate. A position that McConnell must use his PAC and other alliances, to keep. The folks at Politico have written a concise article on the effort. The anger of Republican voters is at a high level. Politicians ran as fiscal conservatives, but when in office, they did all they could to defend and proliferate liberal expansions of govt. power. Perhaps the failed efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act is the point of 'critical mass', where conservative voters came to the realization that Republican politicians have betrayed us. Bannon says only Texas Senator, Ted Cruz, is being defended and supported for another term. |
Steve Bannon's Season of War[2018 US Senate Primary]
|
The effort will take money and national coordination. But Bannon is confident that every one of the 7 targeted Republicans is vulnerable.
This may be a new Tea Party insurgeancy, but with new rules and new strategists. The new media on the right will be a key resource, along with a greater utilization of social media. State GOP organizations will be the battleground where organization and warfare takes place. Oklahoma has no US senate seat open, in 2018. Senator Jim Inhofe completes his term in 2020. He is well into his 80s' and would have a difficult time fending off a challenge. |
