The Oklahoma Supreme Court is hearing the case of the veto referendum process, conducted by Oklahoma Taxpayers Unite. Teachers Unions are backing an effort to defeat the constitutional right to override a bill passed by the legislature and signed by the governor. The process, called "Veto Referendum" is a part of the Oklahoma Constitution and was included in our form of state government since the 1907 statehood charter. Only 25 such efforts have been called by the people of Oklahoma. One on the arguments cites that fact that some other states don't have this constitutional process and therefor it's not fair that Oklahoma citizens do. AG Mike Hunter roundly condemned the argument in his court brief. The proceedings are being webcast on Youtube, at 2pm. |
